Hello everyone,

I found something VERY interesting from the USA!
You can buy water/methanol complete kits at www.TurboTuning.net. It's essentially comparable to NOS. It's used for the highly modified NASCAR cars in the USA. icon_eek.gif

To explain how this works in detail, please refer to the link above. The website's homepage provides a very clear explanation.
(Also, sometimes it's worth taking a look at the background information on the page. It's very interesting! icon_biggrin.gif)

Has anyone had any experience with these WAES systems in TDI engines?

Best regards from Marv.

Hi Marv,
My neighbor has the same system from this company installed in his Audi A3 TDI PD, and I have to say that it provides good cooling and more power, but only with a 50/50 mixture of methanol and water.
Adding more or less methanol didn't make a difference, so he just left it at a 50/50 mixture.
But it pulls much better than before; he now wants to increase the boost pressure and use the system to dissipate the resulting heat. I'm curious to see how it turns out. icon_razz.gif

Very good. Very good! Thank you. Finally, someone who had the same idea as me!! icon_lol.gif

So, as a general rule, PDs are compatible with the WAES system.

Do you know how much extra power it gets?

It's the case that, if everything goes according to plan, I will also have a WAES system installed in my 150HP ARL next week! In addition, it will have custom software for the engine control unit and a 0.4 bar increase in boost pressure. icon_twisted.gif

Could you please ask your neighbor where exactly he installed the nozzle for the water softener?
So, BEFORE the turbo or AFTER the turbo?

Sure, here's the translation:

'It would be really nice!'

Best regards from Marv.

'He installed it right after the LLK, which I also think is the most sensible approach...'
I estimate the increase in performance to be around 20%.

Don't worry if it smokes a bit at the beginning; that's just residue from the burning process, which will be cleaned out by the system.

Hmm... so, according to the installation instructions, the nozzle should be installed AFTER the turbo (which is recommended) and BEFORE the intercooler, at a 45-degree angle in the direction of the airflow.

Does this cause problems before the LLK? icon_question.gif

I have to disagree with you, because the manufacturer's website also states...
'...The pump directly feeds into the pressure-side collection pipe of the charge air. Ideally, the molecular atomizer nozzle should be placed after an existing charge air cooler.'
http://www.turbotuning.net/images/MechDiagram6.jpg

'Does this cause problems with the coolant system?' Well, having liquid in the coolant system isn't really good, especially if it's just pure water, because the methanol content will evaporate.

icon_eek.gif Oh my! I saw at your booth that the installation manual is from 2003! Mine is a year older! It didn't say that exactly in mine!

We almost installed it incorrectly! icon_rolleyes.gif

I called TurboTuning.net and asked about that exact issue because it's not mentioned in my manual. They couldn't tell me anything either. Good thing I posted this here!

Has he installed another switch in the WAES system? My theory is that the motor doesn't need to be cooled when it's cold. I'm also not sure if the motor can handle or even tolerate it during the warm-up phase...

The Marv.

Yes, it has a switch to completely turn it off, but if it's set to the higher boost pressure, it will only start when the boost pressure reaches a certain level.

@Rainer K.

And how do you come to that conclusion?

Well, it's a bit of a coincidence that two people found each other... icon_cool.gif

PS: You can also rent advertising space from me. Before I look at the log files. If I'm wrong, sorry. (But then I will check the server log files). icon_mrgreen.gif

However, it has nothing to do with dissociative identity disorder. icon_cool.gif It's great that at least someone has used it before. icon_lol.gif That's my opinion, anyway.

And I also tried the search function. icon_rolleyes.gif But I didn't find anything useful.

Anyway, he definitely helped me. That's what matters!

Sorry if this has turned into a kind of instruction manual, but I just wanted to help, isn't that what a forum is for? icon_confused.gif

I think Rainer means something different.
It's quite noticeable.
that two new users were having a very enthusiastic conversation about an unusual topic.
That looks very much like an advertisement, and nobody wants that here!

Oh, so it was meant icon_rolleyes.gif.

Don't worry, I just did some online research on the topic yesterday and came across this forum. I found the forum to be very good in terms of the topics it covers, etc.

It was a coincidence that Marv started a thread about it yesterday. And since I had been dealing with the subject for the past few weeks due to an installation, I just happened to have a lot of information about it.

I wouldn't want to promote a specific company, because, fundamentally, a water electrolysis system (WAES) from any manufacturer is essentially the same, as the underlying principle of operation is always the same.

Hey, sorry if it looked like an AD! It was really just a coincidence. icon_razz.gif
Actually, I'm glad I found this forum because it's very difficult to find answers to questions like these elsewhere.
I find it interesting, however, that this type of 'stealth advertising' is being done. icon_eek.gif

I thought it was really GREAT that someone already had experience with the installation. It also helped me a lot. Thanks again, flashtu!!! icon_wink.gif
