hi,
I have a fault code 4FA (actuator motor for the air flap) in the climate control system.
Can someone tell me where I can find this stepper motor so I can replace it?
or could something else be broken?
Sure, here's the translation:

Oh yes, I forgot, I drive a Golf TDI station wagon, manufactured in 2001.

Remove the glove compartment; the motor is located at the top, facing towards the windshield. It's quite a hassle to install the engine.

I would only do that if the engine really isn't moving anymore...
My Climatronic system occasionally throws an error message every few months, related to the on or off switch.
"alternative servo motor; however, after clearing the error, everything returns to normal and the actuator test passes."
"It's not finding anything (the flap is moving as expected)."

Well, the outside temperature sometimes shows over 40 degrees Celsius below zero!

Hi,
If the outside temperature displayed is -40°C, but it's not actually that cold outside, I don't think replacing the actuator will solve the problem. I don't see how the servo motor could have anything to do with the outside temperature display.
Regards,

hi,
and what do you think I should do?
The outside temperature is definitely not displayed correctly.
and the only error code is 4FA!

Hello,
How did you read the error code?
Best regards, Rainer.

'To activate reading mode: Press and hold the 'ECON' and 'Recirculation' buttons for at least 2 seconds.'
As described.

Hi,
I would first check the temperature sensor and, if it's defective, replace it. Then I would clear the fault memory of the Climatronic system.
The error message related to the actuator may no longer appear.
I can imagine that if a temperature sensor is faulty, the Climatronic system might start malfunctioning (Climatronic measures: intake air is supposedly -40°C, Climatronic knows: the driver wants an interior temperature of 20°C, Climatronic knows: the coolant is 78°C. Climatronic does: adds some heating power, specifically the amount needed to produce an outlet temperature of 20°C at -40°C. Climatronic measures: the outlet temperature is +30°C. Climatronic thinks: 'There's a faulty actuator!')
I once had the error code '4F9' (fuse for the air conditioning compressor). However, the fuse was actually fine! I suspect that the error was caused by a brief, extreme fluctuation in the vehicle's electrical system. So: Error messages are fine, but you should still question them critically.
I can't imagine that a faulty actuator motor would affect the temperature sensor reading (except in cases of a short circuit and extremely high current draw).
Please keep us updated! If someone else encounters the same problem as you, they will be happy to find not only a description of the error in this thread, but also instructions on how to fix it!
