Hello,
We plan to completely replace the clutch soon (including the clutch disc, pressure plate, and release bearing).
Does the VR6 fit into the TDI AFN engine? Has anyone had experience with this?
'Or do we need to change the swing arms as well, since we want to keep the old ones?'
What can you recommend to us?
Best regards,

Have you ever thought that a VR6 engine might have less torque than a TDI ?
I would opt for the original clutch in combination with a reinforced pressure plate from Sachs.
I've already driven it in this combination in an A3 TDI (180 hp) and was surprised by how...
It's good to bite into that. I'd leave those sintered metal pads alone; I've heard things about them.
The driver can no longer allow the clutch to slip excessively, for example, when starting. B.Eng (FH) u. KFZ Meister

Hello Steffarn,
Where did you get your printing plate from? How much did you pay for it?
'I'm not interested in sintered metal couplings (they're supposed to be robust), but there are couplings available that are designed to handle a lot of stress and are intended for vehicles that tow heavy loads.'
Has anyone ever installed this type of clutch before?

The A3 didn't belong to me.
I just installed it for my friend. It can be installed just like the original. I could ask him where he got it from.
I don't remember the price either.
The pedal pressure hasn't become much harder than it was before.
But for that, the gap between disconnecting and engaging is now quite small (goil).
It's not a good beginner's car anymore; probably no driving student would be able to handle it. B.Eng (FH) u. KFZ Meister

Hello,
So, a 'digital' clutch!

hello,
I also have a question.
I drive an ASZ, and my friend drives an AWX. It's strange that my clutch is much harder than his. How can that be? By the way, both our cars have a 6-speed gearbox. I know that 5-speed gearboxes have a smaller clutch plate than the 6-speed ones. If I'm right, then we both have the same clutch plates, right?

The AWX is an inline engine (e.g., Passat 3BG), while the ASZ is a transverse engine. Therefore, completely different types of transmissions are attached to your engines. The subjective difference you perceive likely stems from this.

hm.
Well. That was also my first thought, but a different friend of mine drives an AWX, but a Passat, not an Audi. I've driven both cars, and the Passat has a clutch that feels as hard as mine. That seemed strange to me. The Passat and the Audi with the AWX should, in my opinion, be identical, but unfortunately, that's not the case. Where is the difference? Do Audis have a finer clutch mechanism? Or just a finer tuning, so that you can feel the difference between an Audi and a Volkswagen when driving...? I would really like to take a closer look at one sometime.

However, whether a clutch is hard or not has nothing to do with the engine layout (longitudinal/transverse). If the pressure plate becomes harder over time, you'll notice it in the pedal feel. Additionally, it depends on whether the clutch is operated hydraulically or by a cable.

I didn't say that the clutch stiffness and the engine installation method are inextricably linked. What I meant is that, due to the quite different concepts and, consequently, potentially different solutions in some areas, it might lead to a different feel in the pedal.
There can be many different reasons for this. I only mentioned one. Of course, I am also aware that wear and tear plays a role. Also, two identical Golfs do not necessarily have the same subjective clutch feel.
I personally own a Passat AVF and a Golf ASZ, both with 96 kW engines and manual transmissions.
The differences here are quite significant. However, since the Passat also has a much lower seating position than the Golf, I suspect that a difference arises due to geometric reasons. Of course, there are many more differences as well.

Hi Little Baby
I also searched for a long time to find a clutch for my AFN.
Here's what came out:
G-60 Sport clutch kit, Sachs, organic friction material.
You'll also need to install a G60 flywheel because the original one won't fit anymore.
Have the G60 flywheel machined down to a minimum of 1.4 kg, as it is 1.4 kg heavier than the original TDI flywheel.
