If it comforts you:
On the Polo 9N, the left bumper grille with the fog light opening is only available in an open configuration (-> splash water can reach the electric power steering), while the grille without the fog light opening is standardly closed. According to the documentation, this is completely independent of the engine type (from the 55 hp entry-level model to the 130 hp TDI).
The "factory-fitted fog lights or not" option is not tied to any specific engine types.
Here's the translation:
So much for the question of the planned transmission cooling or shower system for the 9N.
Gruß Ulf

The gearbox cooling was only available on the Golf ARL (diesel version), and supposedly even with a factory-fitted clutch.
The question now is whether there is actually a flow of air around the fins that properly cools the transmission, or whether this is just a makeshift solution. Is there a 170 model available without the fog lights, because the covers (I've noticed) seem to be closed on all of them.

According to the price list, the BM model is not available with fog lights... whether that's the reason

Yes, the 170 model is also available without the fog lights... let's see if I can "spot" one in a parking lot.
Only the Hai-Line model comes with fog lights as standard equipment.
I paid for it twice (both the Business and Sport packages) .

According to the equipment list, it's actually available on the BM... so, just as smart as before... we really need a BM with fog lights, damn it.

Where can I even see BMs?
To the best of my knowledge, my dealer doesn't have one yet.
Are they officially out yet?
When will the R36 arrive? (But then I would have to completely rebuild the front : )

As I already mentioned... the item is an exhibit at the "Look How Awesome We Are" booth. I got the information from the brochures I took, but it's also available on the VW website. As far as they say, the BM (likely referring to a specific model or feature) is available, but do they mean "available" as in "in stock" or "available to order"?
Martin is getting younger and younger with a Passat he put together himself... tztztzzzt... you only do that after a major front-end collision, or something like that .

I've already taken care of it!
Yesterday, when I was taking pictures of the area near the transmission, I bent one of the retaining clips on the left-hand grille so much that it's almost broken off... so it's a significant piece of damage.
There won't be a conversion to R, so it's better to sell it and order a new one with DSG.

If this is a real photo, then the MSW-free grilles are at least present in "also" and "zu".
EDIT: It's _NOT_ a photo, because it's a rendering from the "calculation" configurator, which incorrectly draws the chrome on the VW emblem on the grill as if it's extending backwards, but it's actually just a ring on the front.

HA!
Now the question is, whether my JMA will produce the Graetsche sound if I restrict its airflow...
Or I can do it the old-school way and drive the BM part (like the W123 200D, which always had a cardboard box in front of the radiator in the winter ).

Do you think it might have problems with that?
"On mine, the grilles at the front are also completely solid."
I'm not sure now if air is being directed somewhere else instead of to my JPS.

Well...
The ARL also had a gearbox cooling system, but the ASZ does not.
If you really want to know, you should probably monitor the temperature.
How do the TDI GT models compare to the TSI GT models? Are they open then?

It would only make sense to have one version with and one without a transmission cooler in the same vehicle if the transmissions had significantly different power losses.
With engines of equal power (both 170 horsepower?) and transmissions of the same generation, I find that hard to imagine.
