Personally, I find touchscreens quite annoying, especially because of the finger smudges. Of course, you can also use a suitable stylus – but that has the disadvantage that you always have to have it in your hand. With pens, toothpicks, etc., it doesn't always work perfectly, or you'll damage the display surface with frequent use. "It might be possible to prevent this with a screen protector, but the installation is quite problematic due to the size (dust inclusions)."
An input field on the touchscreen can always be displayed, and this is not a limiting factor.
I am using the Lenovo Z60T for VCDS. I should try the Lenovo S10-3S for that. He's so cute when you compare him to that one....
Another solution for the right-angle connector is: anyone who doesn't need an extension of 1.8 meters will find small, space-saving solutions with a right-angle connector on a short cable in notebook USB hubs, and usually with 3-4 additional ports. Currently, I am using Philips and Ednet equipment.

Financially prudent:

http://www.samsung.de/de/Privatkunden/Mobil/Notebooks/NSerie/n145plusjp04/NP-N145-JP04DE/detail.aspx?atab=specifications

Currently available at MediaMarkt for 239 EUR

Only drawback: It cannot be folded flat (facing backwards) at 180 degrees.

Hi,
Similarly, Acer (Aspire) also offers tablets (Iconia), although these are still more expensive.
I use the Aspire One. It's borderline slow with MS Office using the AMD Athlon II Neo 1.7 GHz and 1GB DDR3. Otherwise, it's nice for on the go, and I would never use the screen in the car (VCDS) as a tablet/folding screen. Then, sitting in the passenger seat, it works well.

Okay.

I was interested in taking a look at the Acer Iconia W500. The inspection was quickly completed for 500 EUR.

The N145 next door is only offering icon_smile.gif for 239 EUR.

It should be comparable to the Aspire One, or?

VCDS as an iPad app would be a hit, but it won't be icon_sad.gif

Yes, it probably has a slower processor. I still have one with an Intel, which consumes significantly less power.

"I told you so" icon_wink.gif
Webserver based VCDS in a compact OBD-port dongle-dose with WLAN - very handy.

So, please don't waste our time asking when it will be ready.

Excuse me for asking a silly question icon_wink.gif, but I would like to buy a tablet that only has a Micro USB port. Could there be problems when using the normal VCDS Hex CAN cable with an adapter? Or should it be avoided?

Thank you and best regards.

Should work. icon_wink.gif The question is, how long will the mechanically not so stable Micro-USB connector last.

Well, I would really think twice before getting a neutered, miniature version. A budget-friendly laptop is a) affordable and b) offers reasonable ports and c) a large display.
Lenovo B50-30 MCA23GE 15.6" Intel Celeron 2815, 2GB RAM, 320GB, Win8.1

And let's be honest, it looks really cool, but that's it. Neither productive work nor browsing the web is fun with such a small display.

Best regards, Rainer

Okay, Thank you for your opinion.
I only want to use the tablet for VCDS. An 8-inch screen is a good starting point, although it's not very big, I also don't want to spend hours browsing or "working" on it.
A small laptop seems impractical to me.

Alternative approach: VCDS mobile, but it seems to be lagging further, as reported in the thread?

Thank you for your help!
I just bought this used Acer tablet and I've also tried VCDS, and it works perfectly.
Regarding the Micro USB port, I will be especially careful thanks to Rainer's warning icon_smile.gif

Hello!

Since I always have my Microsoft Surface Pro with me, I also always have VCDS with me. I find the touch function to be great; it's great for typing, and I either use the on-screen keyboard or simply fold the keyboard forward, and I have everything I need. I am extremely satisfied with this solution; it's really fun to use. Definitely not a cheap solution, but I also need this tablet for all my other work.

Greetings,

Peter
