It's definitely the brake pad wear indicator, not the brake fluid. I've now bypassed the cables and it's working. According to the information I have, I shouldn't have one, but it's there and it's functioning.
I would like to know why it's not possible to disable it via software.

Because it's not actually active through 'software,' and without a scan, your statement is just a guess .

I have already included the scan, and it shows that it is active; otherwise, it wouldn't work if the cables are jumpered.

Mullemaus means that the brake wear indicator doesn't function via 'software', but is purely electrical, meaning it's a separate, self-contained system. Is that correct?

Hello Fordi,
If you simply state the opposite of what Mullemaus and I write, and don't address the points I raise, we won't be able to help you.
The fact is: It appears that the brake pad wear indicator is NOT active in your vehicle.
It's important to find out why this is the case and whether it's actually true, so please address my questions/comments, as mentioned above.
Apart from that, and unrelated to your topic, but more generally, it's incredibly frustrating when you have to pry every single piece of information out of people because they simply won't explain what has been done to the car so far, or what they actually want to do.
This often leads to frustrating realizations, such as the support request I received a few days ago via email, where someone asked, "How do I need to program this control unit?"
After wasting a lot of time and making numerous inquiries, the final answer was: "The car was brought to the workshop with mismatched control units, I have no idea what was done to it, and now I don't even have the car in the workshop anymore."
Guys, what are these ridiculous requests? Just like when strange things happen to engines, and after repeated investigations, it's eventually admitted that the car had a "tuning" done shortly before. Is this some kind of big secret, or what?
Best regards, Rainer.

I'm sorry, but it's exactly as I'm saying. It's frustrating when you don't get an answer to your question because everyone feels the need to add their own comments. If something had been changed, I would have mentioned it. I would like to know why the code is 00040 and the wear indicator is active. Perhaps someone else has encountered a similar situation and has an answer to my question. Regarding the "0," I simply forgot to include it in my question initially, but I have since entered it correctly, and it worked, but didn't change anything. I can't say what was done to this car; it was purchased about a year ago. Please, what should I focus on? The scan was performed, the number was programmed, and the result is known.
"And please, I just wanted to remove the wear indicator from a car. My customer requested it that way. Now I've bypassed the wires and it works, but that wasn't the intention."
And if you had just replaced the cables, it would have been faster.

Hello,
My statement about "withholding information" was also more general in nature, as I have received several similar requests in recent weeks.
What seems strange to me: The odd information displayed on your car's instrument panel during the diagnostic scan.
Speculation about the strange behavior of the instrument cluster: It appears to have been modified or tampered with.

I had asked for a picture of the warning light...
I think we should close this topic. It's unlikely we'll be able to determine why this particular combination instrument is behaving differently from others with the same part number, especially considering the effort it would require, and besides, the light is off now.
Best regards, Rainer.

Hello.
Before this topic is closed, I would like to ask my question about it one more time.
Is there a list available somewhere that specifies which (Audi) vehicles allow you to disable the brake pad wear indicator using VCDS or a similar tool, and which ones do not?
Are there any general principles or guidelines for this, for example, for Audi XY models manufactured from year XXXX, or for Bosch ABS systems from version X.X, or for ESP X.X?
If this question is not appropriate for this forum and would be better suited for a separate thread, please accept my apologies.

Do you see it in VCDS when you hover the mouse cursor over the coding input field in the instrument cluster?
I am not aware of any such list or similar document.
Best regards, Rainer.

I did insert the scan, and it's active; otherwise, it wouldn't work if the cables are bridged.
With 00040, it is NOT active .
