Hello.
What am I doing wrong? I want to disable the brake pad wear sensor.
The control unit displays "0040" for the brake pad sensor, which indicates a value of 1. Therefore, I need to enter "39".
I entered 39, but it was not accepted. The vehicle is an Audi A4, model year 1999.

The Autoscan hasn't been posted, so we don't know what's installed in your car, and we would have to spend a long time researching. That can't be right, can it?

Hello,
Until 'bis fordi' is back, I'll allow myself to ask a question on this topic:
Is there a list available somewhere that specifies which (Audi) vehicles allow the brake pad wear indicator to be disabled using VCDS or a similar tool, and which ones do not?
Are there any general principles or guidelines for this, such as for Audi XY models from the year XXXX onwards, or for Bosch ABS systems from version X.X or ESP X.X?

Why is there a blank line in your text file, specifically in the section about ABS/ESP encoding?
How is the control unit coded *right now*?

I ran a diagnostic scan, and this is what it says. How am I supposed to understand this, given the current programming? I haven't programmed anything. I received the vehicle like this, and I just want to remove the brake control function because the cables are faulty.

What coding does the ABS control unit display when you want to change it?
I'm currently wondering if the brake pad wear indicator can be deactivated in the instrument cluster.
A simple solution would be to trace the cables for the bridges within the coverings, cut them, and solder the cable ends together. I mean, if the cables are already defective, you're not losing anything by doing that.
Are you sure that the brake pad wear indicator light on the dashboard is actually lit, or could there be another issue?
What happens if you code the instrument cluster with the code 01040?
Please ensure that after EVERY coding change, the connection to the control unit is properly terminated, and then turn off the ignition.
Best regards, Rainer.

Unfortunately, the cable is difficult to access because a cable from the top is already damaged.
Yes, and the "Kombii" system is being deactivated. The code displayed is 00040, and the brake wear indicator is at level 1.
I enter 39, but only 39 appears, and the code 00040 remains unchanged.
Why should I ever enter "1040"?

Hello,
No, that's not how it works. Codings generally function like a bitmask, which is why the values of the individual options are always a power of 2 (2^x).
If VCDS displays "??xxx" followed by an explanation, does the explanation refer to the two "?? " digits within the entire number?
So, if "enable brake pad wear indicator" is "+01" and your coding is 00040, then the "+01" bit is never set within that number.
And what hasn't been set, you can't subtract, logically, right?
Therefore, please do what I have written, as I never write anything without a specific reason.
Best regards, Rainer.

And I thought it was about an STG swap. .
What's the point of all this nonsense?
Cable defect -> repair or replace.
It's almost enough time to repair the wiring harness. Who knows what else is broken.
Why modify the vehicle?

Changing the number to 01040 doesn't change anything about the display.

However, you haven't activated the brake pad wear indicator. Because if you had, the coding would be 01040 by default .
+00 - would not, in fact, be an extra feature .
