Should I remove the DPF from my Audi A4 170 hp TDI?

Hello.

Is it possible to simply remove the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) from a car in Germany and replace it with a pipe? Wouldn't the engine control unit (ECU) normally need to be adjusted? Normally, the engine should then become significantly more responsive and, at the same time, more fuel-efficient?

Has anyone here ever done that before...?

Feasible, but technically complex. While it may be practical, such a modified vehicle is no longer street legal, as it loses its operating permit due to the significant alterations.
