The Polo is usually different in terms of the FIS (most have a digital fuel gauge). The FIS/instrument cluster initially looks like one in a Golf/Passat. In our Sharan, it worked the same way; the setting is available under "Lights & Visibility." However, even with the TFL (Traffic Flow), the Polo (the older 6R models I'm familiar with) is somehow different because the halogen Polo models cannot be disabled either with the turn signal lever/horn trick or via VCDS. It's wired directly through the light switch. It's unlikely, but possible, that the same applies to the xenon models. I have to admit, I haven't reviewed the Autoscan specifically for that.

I once went through the wiring diagrams. The wiring of the TFL (turn indicator) in the Polo 6R, whether it's directly wired from the light switch or goes through the central electrical system, depends on...
- TFL regarding main headlight reflectors or separate lights;
- Start/Stop system, and whether it is equipped with or without regenerative braking;
- Engine,
- Model year.
If possible, in Ulf's model, the TFL (turn signal, brake light, and fog light) could potentially be switched via the MFA (multifunction display), as there is no information electronics with MMI (multi-media interface) present. With a direct wiring setup, a separate switch would be the solution.
How does the trick with the turn signal lever/horn work?

"There's no trick to it; it's stated in the owner's manual (I mean, from memory, I'm not looking at it right now): High beam flash, left turn signal, and ignition on = TFL off. High beam flash and right turn signal = TFL on. This at least works on Golf VII rental cars with halogen headlights."

All the Polo models available to me have start-stop technology and separate TFL (Traffic Flow Limitation).

Did you wait for the bus to "rest"? Perhaps the additional menu can only be found in the MFA after the bus has been "asleep" once. (This is at least the case with several other MFA stories in the Passat 3C).
Unfortunately, this is not the case with my Polo - even after several nights, there is no TFL menu in "Lights & Vision".

My Polo has Bi-Xenon headlights and LED daytime running lights. Without the parking light on, the headlights are bright; with the parking light on, the LEDs are dimmed.
No start-stop system, engine = CDLJ, model year = 2014.

There is no information about the TFL (Trick) in my Polo owner's manual.
I might give it a try, though, since nothing will break if I do.

Separating TFL and dimming functions suggests control over the central electrical system.
So, the goal is to expand the menu within the MFA system accordingly.
The AI coding (140E00) looks like ours. Do you find anything in the adaptation channels?
You may need to log in to the STG system.

Without logging in, I cannot see anything related to TFL, see the attachment.

Could you please provide me with the login code for the AI?

The login code will become visible when you hover your mouse over the window.
It all looks the same as it does in our Polo.
The channel, if it exists, must therefore first be found. The channels listed with a label are not all of them; you'll see more if you go through the channel numbers. Of course, it could also be an unmarked coding bit.

I just installed the latest VCDS 14102, but it doesn't work for me (the "Access Authorization" button).

So, let's wait and see if the RossTech team includes anything suitable in future versions of the labels.icon_rolleyes.gif

Hello Ulf,
My attempt to access the control unit in our Polo (6R) using the authorization process and by navigating the adaptation channels is also failing. What works with Audi isn't working here. I'm sorry, I was too confident about it.
Since my car is due for its 60,000 km service, I probably need to look into resetting the maintenance indicator for the longlife system again.

Update:
While using the new VCDS 15.07 software, I found a coding option similar to "TFL active." I unchecked the box, and after accepting the new coding, the bright LED daytime running lights turned off.
When used as daytime running lights, the LEDs are dimmed as before.

But, to this day, several adaptation channels in the central electronics module 7H0 937 090 B are not documented / have no explanations provided (see the initial post) icon_sad.gif.

That means your business entity is definitely dissolved icon_wink.gif.

Unfortunately, it's not possible for D, as the existing lighting equipment also needs to function (as intended). icon_cry.gif

To be honest, I even find it concerning that you are disabling such an important, security-relevant function.icon_rolleyes.gif

I doubt that I would be easily visible in bright summer sunlight for that reason... but as we move towards winter and every light source becomes more noticeable, I will reactivate the TFL.

I'll state, perhaps a bit cynically, that in the front-facing, compulsory or persuasive display of uniformity in oncoming traffic, an unlit car is more noticeable than another one with TFL icon_razz.gif.

That's easily done. We have a lot of accidents every year because of it.

Check out this video:

Achte mal drauf welche Autos (bzw. Fahrzeuge) im Gegenverkehr besser zu erkennen sind. With lights!
Sure, the "high beam/low beam" situation is extreme here as well. Unfortunately, this is exacerbated by the extremely dense vegetation, and this is not an isolated case in our area. Therefore, I don't think the TFL decision in the EU is entirely wrong. Personally, I always use my full headlights, and I'm not alone in doing so in this area.

I still find it somewhat embarrassing to drive around, even in bright sunlight, with the lights on (which you can only notice if you look closely) – it feels like a kind of mindless herd mentality: "Lights are good, so I always drive with them on."
Of course, it's a good thing, and it's in the name of the finance minister, who alone could collect a few extra million euros each year from the increased consumption in Germany, specifically from the difference compared to a system where "lights are only on between evening and morning twilight."

But if, in the worst-case scenario, someone crashes into my car head-on while I'm driving on a sunny day, then claims they didn't see me, and the technical accident investigation reveals that my TFL (turn indicator) was off... then, according to strict German logic, I would likely be found to be (more) partially responsible than if my TFL had been on.

So, I have re-enabled the TFL, and I feel like a lesser evil during every drive in bright sunlight, like a stupidly switched-off/disempowered herd animal in an endless procession of sun flares new_tomato.gif.
"But I'm glad that I can still choose to turn the high and low beams on and off myself, instead of being further restricted by a priority twilight sensor (briefly turning on the xenon lights under every bridge - is that a warning about speed cameras, or is it generating extra revenue for companies like Orsam & Co. through unnecessary switching cycles of the bulbs?)."

Cars that are forced to drive with all the lights on, where every conceivable function is also turned on – headlights, license plate lights, and instrument panel lights – really annoy me. Probably, the intention is to prevent the already frustrated driver from forgetting to turn on the lights properly.

If daytime running lights are going to be mandatory, then they should at least use modern technology that doesn't increase fuel consumption and is durable enough. I see enough vehicles every day with partially defective LED daytime running lights, and no one seems to bother fixing them. At least, that's the case for the owners of the converted VW T5 vans.

I still don't understand why we have to ride with our lights on in the city, even on the brightest sunny days. That's why I'm glad that the mandatory daytime running lights never came into effect here. I also use my lights on forest roads or during dark, gloomy autumn weather. Some people don't use them, just like some people always drive too fast, and some people chronically park illegally.
