To be honest, I wouldn't go with 0Wxx for that car. At most, 5Wxx. Right now, I'm using Castrol Diesel oil 10W40. I'm quite happy with it, but you can definitely feel that the car is sluggish when starting from a standstill.

Hello everyone!
5W-40 fully synthetic oil isn't only available from Valvoline. Currently, I'm using Liquimoly's oil, which costs around 40 euros for a 5-liter canister. ATU also sells a cheaper fully synthetic oil, which is also a 5W-40. I used to work there and was convinced of its quality.
Despite these terrible temperatures, my Passat (1Z, 285,000 km) is still having starting problems... At least, it's acting up more than last winter. One thing I suspect is that at least two glow plugs have failed, but honestly, I'm afraid that with this mileage, these things might only come out of the head as a 'complete unit' with an 'aluminum spring,' so I'm hesitant to do anything about it for now. On the other hand, I think I should probably start considering investing in a new injector set soon. Last year, it started without any hesitation or sputtering even at -8 degrees Celsius. Now, the problems are starting to appear at a maximum of -5 degrees Celsius...
Best regards,
Dominique.

Hey you 1Z torturers .
Why do you always just assume that spark plugs are dead? I can understand that with pre-chamber diesels, because you have to remove all sorts of things to be able to test the plugs individually.
But with the TDI, it's so easy because everything is so nicely exposed.
My truck starts perfectly (1Z, 153,000 km), but yesterday, while in 5th gear in the city, it was shaking at around 1400 rpm .
Maybe he was too cold, and that's why he was shivering .
@ Dominique
What do you mean by "aluminum spring" when referring to the candles (I've only installed and removed about 16362 swirl chamber candles so far).

Hello,
My 1Z also gets 5W40 fully synthetic oil.
The last 5-liter can for 15€ at Bahr was a special offer. Otherwise, the Cartechnik oil from the car accessories store is what they're using, and they suspect it's the same stuff as LiquiMoly!
Well, never mind.
Anyway, my Audi starts really well, even when it's really cold. It runs smoothly right away, and it idles so nicely that it's a true pleasure .
The battery is a Bosch Silver (or something similar) and is already quite old. It's the third battery after 300,000 km. The injectors are still the original ones and will likely remain so. However, I recently added some Vavoline fuel injector cleaner to the tank, and I thought it might have helped. A taxi operator probably uses that stuff regularly.
Overall, a very reliable automobile.
Best regards,

Okay, that's why mine are new. I think cleaning them all around took just as long as the installation and removal .

Hello,
Guys, don't just throw your money away. These oil myths are slowly becoming outdated . Our Audi 80 1Z has been using LiquiMoly 15W40 HD from the beginning, costing 19 euros for 5 liters, and it starts perfectly with almost 300,000 km, even at -10 degrees Celsius, and still reaches a top speed of 200 km/h. Pay more attention to the fact that during the cold start phase (which unfortunately takes a long time), the RPM should not exceed 1500 at the beginning and later not exceed 2000 rpm... then you don't need expensive oil. ____________

Hi,
But for that price, I could also buy fully synthetic oil!
What surprises me even more is how your Audi 200 manages to do that. Mine is registered with a top speed of 170 km/h, and it reaches about 4100 RPM at that speed. That's really the limit!
Regards,
Sausage blinkers.

Hi Wurstblinker,
I don't understand it either... it runs better than my Passat and still has the original mass airflow sensor and turbocharger . We only changed the diesel filter twice during its entire lifespan (because it's so awkward to get to) . The fuels have also become much better nowadays, which is why you can safely leave the diesel filter in for 60,000 km or more. ____________

Of course, it's also possible that the speedometer is very optimistic.
I changed the diesel filter last year, and I didn't think it was that bad.
However, it didn't achieve anything.
'But I don't really care about the top speed anyway, as I never drive faster than 160 km/h. I want to get more out of the engine, and full-throttle driving has never been good for engines, especially not ones that have already done 300,000 km!'
Have a nice weekend.
Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:
'MFG' is an abbreviation for 'mit freundlichen Grüßen,' which means 'with kind regards' or 'best regards' in English.

Okay, my 1Z is also starting poorly at the moment (like described above, with a rough running engine). I also think it might be the injectors.
Oil performance like from the first kilometer: Castrol GTD 10W40.
Best regards, D.

Oh yeah, the injectors might also be the problem for me; I think they're probably faulty too, and my EGR valve is still open.
@dieselmartin
That's why he also got 5W40 this time. He didn't want to 'shock' the engine with 0W40 and wanted to first observe the oil consumption.
Best regards, WarLord.

My car now has 256,000 kilometers on the odometer. I had a new timing belt installed this week. I also had the ESP system dynamically adjusted, and it starts up like a dream.
However, it takes about 13 kilometers for it to reach its operating temperature, but I think...
-10 degrees Celsius is normal.
By the way, there's a chip from Rdi motorsport available for 199 Euros.
If I can get just 216 more nozzles, I'll be completely happy.
It accelerates up to 210 km/h, and after a while, the needle then settles at 220.

It also cost more than the 1Z model and is rare to find in the Passat 35i (as is the case in the Golf III).

@ WarLord
I can wonderfully regulate the oil consumption myself .
Until 140 km/h, it's almost zero consumption. However, if I occasionally get carried away and drive him at 170-180 km/h over long distances on the highway, I use quite a bit of oil.
More than 180, it's only downhill from here . Is the CTN shorter than the ASD ????
I disagree with that - I recently, just for fun, removed the last rubber hose in front of the intake manifold - and oil came out when I held it vertically.
I don't want to know how many liters are in the LLK .
When it gets warmer, everything will be taken out and washed.

"Our Stubsi (A2 1.4 TDI) and the *** Allroad have no problems; they just need a bit more time to start. Currently, the temperature is down to -24°C. However, the 2.5 111kW engine in the T4 is struggling; we're lucky if the two batteries can provide enough power for the starter to turn over once. To put it mildly."

The T4 may have two batteries, but only one is used for starting the engine.
