Hello Uli,

Try this out for comparison with salad oil from Aldi (79 cents/liter).

Was that meant seriously or was it just a joke icon_confused.gif?

It's meant seriously; in the summer, I use a 50/50 mixture. It's cheaper and the engine runs smoother.
"For those interested, this is a great tip because it significantly improves the exhaust emissions."
In the winter, I would advise against using it, as the substance is quite viscous.

What happens if I add one liter of vegetable oil to a tank containing 50 liters of diesel fuel?

Will I achieve similar effects as when adding 250 ml of 2-stroke oil to diesel fuel?

You probably have to try it out; it certainly won't hurt to do so!

In many cases, what you believe actually helps. I'm only using this oil because it's cheaper.

I don't believe that today's diesel engines are bad for the Electronic Stability Program (ESP), because there are many TDI models that have been running with their original ESP systems for a long time without any problems.
My brother has driven his car, an AFN model, for 270,000 km. He doesn't warm it up before driving, nor does he perform any kind of maintenance on it, and so far it hasn't had any problems other than a faulty head gasket.

It will likely be quite different. The grease probably won't lubricate as well when diluted, and it tends to form deposits, whereas 2-stroke oil burns more cleanly and contains additives for cleaning.

Hi,
My brother and I have been using this two-stroke oil mixture since last summer.
On a 670 km stretch of highway that my brother has driven many times, we achieved a fuel savings of half a liter per 100 kilometers by using approximately 300 ml of the additive.
His car is a Golf 4 with a 90 horsepower engine and 260,000 kilometers on the odometer.

The same thing happens with my 1Z.
Despite the new nozzles, it's noticeably quieter now and doesn't make as much noise from the oil!

I've read a lot about this in other forums, where one user has been doing it for years and his car always has the best possible emissions test results.

So, it can't be that bad!

Best regards,

I wouldn't express it quite so generally.
What if the substance gradually builds up deposits in the area of the piston rings, which only lead to high oil consumption or engine failure after 100,000 km or more (similar to the "Pöl-Golf2" incident with Autoblöd)?

Has a motor operated in this way ever been disassembled after reaching a certain mileage and compared to one running on "pure diesel"?

Hello,

seriös. However, (as cksIT already mentioned) I would postpone it until the summer, because this stuff is so thick in the winter that it only mixes reluctantly with the fuel in the tank. If you then pour 5 liters into a nearly full tank, it will run down to the bottom (because it's denser than diesel) and will be almost undiluted when sucked up during the next start. By the way, I mostly drive on pure old gasoline (see signature), but in cold weather, I mix in 5% gasoline to make the "gruel" a little easier to pour into the tank icon_wink.gif.

You probably won't notice anything at all, maybe just a slight smell of fries shortly after takeoff.

"I have no idea, I've never run diesel with 2-stroke oil before. But with 10-20% kerosene (Pöl), you should notice a quieter running noise, and it might also respond slightly better to the throttle. I doubt that fuel consumption will decrease; in my experience, it usually doesn't increase either. I think it's unlikely that more deposits will form in the engine compared to using just diesel, especially with such low percentages. That's more likely to happen with higher concentrations and an unsuitable driving style/route profile, where the combustion chambers don't get properly warm or cool down too much."

Best regards, Uli (currently at 300,000 km with a mix of new and used oil).

Just a side note: I have a PD diesel engine, so it doesn't have ESP.

Are there any experiences with kerosene mixtures in the range of 20% or higher?

'In this case, he might need even less of it when using a higher-power setting, because, as far as I know, the energy density is higher in that situation. And if the purity is high enough, it should burn well, except for the soot.'

Is it also available with a rose scent? icon_biggrin.gif

- For the oil lamps, one can clearly differentiate oneself from the competition in terms of emissions icon_cool.gif, and the particulate matter becomes an exclusive olfactory experience, which should give the living space on Landshuter Allee in Munich its typical 'Munich exclusivity.'

A classic case of "I put the wrong fuel in, I'm driving differently without realizing it, and I'm drawing the wrong conclusions from that."
The energy content of the oil will not be significantly higher than that of diesel to a degree that would noticeably change fuel consumption. What remains? Even with potentially improved lubrication of the injection system, fuel consumption is unlikely to decrease measurably.

No, that's not true.
The driving style is always the same: Full throttle whenever possible!
I've often driven this route in 5 hours and 30 minutes. This time, due to a small traffic jam, it took 6 hours.
We never put any fuel in the tank. We also drove it with the additive mixed in, as if we hadn't added it to the tank.
It always consumed 7.5 liters per 100 km. With oil, it consumed 7 liters per 100 km.
However you look at it, no two trips are ever the same!

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

'MFG' stands for 'Mit freundlichen Grüßen,' which translates to 'Sincerely' or 'Best regards' in English. It is a common way to end a formal letter or email.

A win against a weaker opponent doesn't necessarily mean much.
However, I believe there's a potential fuel efficiency advantage for vehicles with high mileage: If the injectors open at different times due to wear and friction (rather than due to spring fatigue), with the needle lift injector opening first, followed by the rest. If these timings become closer together again due to better lubrication/less friction, then fuel consumption should also decrease. However, I don't think a reduction of 0.5L/100km is realistic; I haven't noticed anything like that in my own car.

Hi,

I don't think friction explains everything.
I believe that the lower flash point of two-stroke oil compared to diesel is the reason for the reduced fuel consumption. In particular, after a cold start and at low engine speeds, the mixture ignites more easily.

Regards,
Micha

The reason for the half liter discrepancy isn't due to the lawnmower-chainsaw-scooter oil, but rather because of...
