More evidence supporting my theory that when searching for "Golf 3 with 1Z," the results point to specific features of the "Audi 80 with 1Z":

The search for tensioner rollers yields the same results for the G3 variant of the TDI engine as it does for the Audi 80.

Oops, no, the change happened in 1995.

In MJ 95, part number 028 109 243 was replaced by part F, which has engine number 289576.

For the MJ 96 1Z model, only the "F" option was available.

Result: You and I are using the same type of tension rollers.

And one more thing:

autoteiel.cc should be used with caution and considered as a reference only.

They refer to the Conti ZR set for the new 1Z/AHU engine as CT867K4, but Conti doesn't recognize that part number; they only know CT945K1.

For the older 1Z model, both use the CT867K3.

So, the discussion wasn't entirely useless; I learned something from it.

Otherwise, don't worry, Martin, the ZR change won't cause you any problems.

Since I happened to have it on hand, the CT945 is the improved version of the 867 and should (or is supposed to) be used instead.

Be careful with autoteile.cc. They advertise the Conti 945, but then ship a generic replacement part that is the 867, which is not approved for the AFN engine.

Attached are the technical specifications from Continental.

Does anyone know of a good, affordable source for the Conti ZR tire or a complete set?

By the way, the tensioner pulley on my car broke, even though the timing belt was almost new.

I played it safe back then and got the parts from VW.

After they replaced the wrong valve cover gasket, everything was perfect.
