I wouldn't generalize like that.
There are certainly dozens of 'good' tuners who develop and work independently, and who do a perfectly good job.
Whether someone can offer a TÜV (German technical inspection) report or not is certainly not a measure of the quality they provide.
The pricing policy is something that each individual must decide for themselves, but it's clear that a single person can more easily afford to modify a single machine for €190 than a company that has to finance employees and business premises.

He is right...
What we can learn again:
Skillful/sophisticated tuning, of course, costs a few euros.
And to add to the question that almost makes me sick – why a TDI file that has been sold 100 times shouldn't cost more than €100 – remember that the company has to pay its employees, rent, utilities, and other expenses 365 days a year. Those who don't want to pay for it should familiarize themselves with '10-cent tuning' by reading the relevant articles in this forum.

To improve performance on the engine control unit (ECU), a maximum of 6-8 maps are typically required, depending on the engine. More than that is not beneficial. That's not the art.
The difficulty always lies in the "how" - for example, one could guess or copy, develop something independently, measure and research, or simulate. Alternatively, one could defeat the three giant dogs in Wolfsburg and steal the data, or read fortunes from coffee grounds, or consult with Dr. [Name/Title]. Summer questions...
The result is always the same:
A compromise that balances performance, emissions, durability, noise, and fuel consumption.
Those who possess the necessary knowledge and skills can naturally achieve a more favorable compromise for individual properties than those who rely on guesswork and trial and error. The necessary technology and knowledge about physics are essentially available to everyone; it's not a secret, and you don't need any connections in Wolfsburg. It always comes down to what someone is willing to invest and what level of quality they want to achieve.
What price, however it is defined, one can demand or be allowed to demand for the product in question is truly a biblical question with cross-societal, socio-economic, ethical, cultural, operational, and economic relevance that does not deserve a simple answer  .
Unfortunately, there's no "Columbus's egg" solution when it comes to improving performance.

Probably, there will never be a definitive answer to that question because! I've also been trying to find the "right" tuner for several months now, and I've had closer contact with various tuners in the process. There will likely always be a certain risk involved (who creates the files, where does the tuner get them, etc.) - and as someone else mentioned here, just because someone claims to offer less power doesn't necessarily mean that the tuning is gentler on the engine!
Perhaps you could send me a list of your favorites and the reasons behind your choices via private message?

I see things differently; I've even had disagreements with Rainer about it. Since I honestly admit I don't know much about it, I won't contradict you, but my opinion is fundamentally different... not just regarding 'chipping,' but it's a fundamental question concerning societal structures, political systems, and economic systems. There will never be a perfect world. But I won't support his fancy showroom with a Saeco coffee machine and bikini girls, just so he can withhold knowledge that should be freely available.
Then we'll all go back to university again... One person studied mechanical engineering, another physics, the next embedded programming, and the next is a skilled tradesperson.
Then we work together and do things  for ourselves, and that works well until one person wants to take advantage of the other, because their contribution is more valuable... etc. etc.
Then we are where we are...

I am quite surprised by this clutch, which, according to more or less credible reports, is also inadequate in the original model and already fails there.
This should be a tragic isolated incident within the VAG group  .
The naive manager always thought that in DTL, every technical 'thing' was marked up by 30%.
In a way, the clutch acts as a 'weak point' designed to fail and prevent more significant damage, which is a great feature – three thumbs up. I would rather save the more expensive powertrain.
You'll look silly if the 'ears' of the paraglider stay behind during a winch launch because you used a 'white' one.
instead of using a used black coupling.

On the contrary.
So, you assured me on the phone at ***, almost in a way that was embarrassing and hurtful  , that they work and develop completely independently.
It is often said that everything in the world has its reason for being. The expensive tuner, just like the 'free pirate copy' from your circle of friends, plays a role in the system, and everyone has their part to play.
It is probably ethically and morally questionable to file a lawsuit in either direction, as one should believe in a form of 'evolution' even in human-social contexts, and, according to Darwin, the 'fitter' ones survive.
Whether it's because some people buy the expensive stuff, or even 'dumber' people ruin their engines and knock themselves out of progressing in other areas of their materialistic 'evolution.'

As soon as certain knowledge can be monetized, there will always be "interested" people who will ensure that it remains secret.
If you find this so awful, why don't you just change sides, become a chip tuner yourself, and share your knowledge freely with the public once you've recouped your investments  .
There are definitely also smaller tuning shops with real expertise and without fancy showrooms, etc. You just have to look a little longer to find them.

No, the clutches on the 74 kW motors often can't handle the torque for very long.

I think so too.
Ultimately, like with any other tuner, a *** tuning voids the factory warranty. However, *** provides its customers with a warranty that covers the same conditions as the original factory warranty.
This naturally gives him a subtle "in-house tuner" bonus that he can capitalize on... he'd be foolish not to, because with the well-known reliability of the VAG group, he'll also have significant expenses for warranty claims on customer vehicles, something that other tuners don't have to worry about. Is that a good starting point for a discussion?
I don't quite understand why this knowledge should be free. Each of us, or at least most of us, have acquired knowledge in order to earn money from it. 'I believe it's perfectly reasonable from an economic standpoint to invest in development, research, and various tuning systems (BDM, CSW, AllCar Racing, Flashbooster, SPI, Race2000, etc.), and to be compensated for the performance gains achieved through these investments.'
Furthermore, you also contribute to the funding of Aldi's stores and employees, and you are not only paying for the actual value of your breakfast roll.

Who hasn't stood helplessly in the supermarket aisle, staring at a 10-meter-long shelf of toothbrushes, and wondered what the point of it all is? Should I take a continuing education course to learn how to properly choose my toothbrush? High-density bristles, X-Cross bristles, lamellae, soft outer bristles, rounded bristles with numerous ball/feather joints...
At the end, I'll probably buy brushes from 'Tipp Toll' or Aldi, as they are good value for money.

I think we're talking past each other.
The fact is:
The minimal equipment needed to 'chip' a 'ridiculous' 1.9 TDI (programmer, socket, e*** file, soldering iron) costs not much more than 700-800 euros (each being the 'Aldi' version).
The actual technologies needed to optimize a large proportion of vehicles on our roads (cars, trucks, buses, tractors, motorcycles) cost tens of thousands of euros. However, Saeco machines, bikini girls, or a performance testing facility are still not included.
What I'm trying to tell you is:
God gave us free will. Therefore, you can decide whether you want to:
a) continue driving with the standard power output.
b) you turn to someone who has knowledge of the subject matter.
c) you take the shortcut.
