Hi Thomas and everyone,
It's getting funnier and funnier... Does anyone here know more about this type of wear and tear?
Could the engine have possibly received oil that was not specifically designed for PD (Pump Dyser) engines at some point? GruĂ Ulf

Hello Ulf,
I haven't found the whole thing funny for a long time now...
As I said, it has now covered 22,000 km (mostly highway driving, so good conditions for the engine), and it has a new turbocharger (which failed), a new flywheel, new common rail injectors, and a new camshaft, but it still vibrates.
Regarding oil consumption: he uses <= 0.5 liters for 20,000 km, which means I personally had to top up half a liter of expensive PD-specific oil purchased from VW. That's probably not the reason for the rattling noises coming from the camshaft either.
Another PD driver told me that due to similar problems, his entire cylinder head, along with all the associated components, had to be replaced. The result was that the engine ran more smoothly and noticeably slower.
HaHello.
Regards,
Thomas.

Hello everyone!
Yesterday I received my car back from the workshop in Wolfsburg. They had replaced the engine and transmission due to vibrations at idle. The engine is a 130 hp TDI.
The new engine doesn't have any noticeable vibrations yet, but it runs rougher than the original engine and is incredibly rough compared to my 110 (AHF) â there's no comparison!
'Has anyone had similar experiences comparing a 110-130 HP TDI engine, or generally regarding the running smoothness of a 130 HP TDI/PD engine?'
I'm very interested. It's clear that the PD engines are significantly worse than the old VP TDI engines in this particular aspect, although that would only be noticeable to those who switched from a 90 or 110 to a PD engine.
'Furthermore, the new engine shows a fuel consumption of 0.9 - 1.0 liters per hour at idle, while the old one had 0.6 - 0.7 liters per hour in the MFA (when warm). What values are you getting with your engines?'
Thank you for the information.
Regards,
Thomas.

Hello!
I also drive an ASZ (engine type), and I can understand the higher fuel consumption figures reported by the MFA (multifunction display).
confirm; however, I drive an automatic car, but I leave it in neutral when stopped at a traffic light.
I always set it to (n)eutral...
Initially, my average fuel consumption was about 1 liter higher.
Now, after 15,000 kilometers (from 7.5 to now 6.5). The "idle consumption."
however, has not changed.
I think the ASZ has evolved from a cold start to become what it is famous for today.
"The 90-degree angle is significantly better than my old model â I'm much happier with it."
Average fuel consumption of 10.5 liters. *Yuck*. Thankfully, I'm driving.
I'm doing a long-distance run...
My reference point is the older PD engine with 115 horsepower; I don't have the exact model code (MKB).
more on my mind. However, I also think that the driving culture of this [vehicle/model]...
"significantly" better than anything that the ASZ currently offers (regardless of).
(Warm or cold!!)
"By the way, mine also vibrates when idling (ship's diesel), although..."
so infrequent that I haven't tried it with my doctor yet.
I've tried to do it, but Murphy's Law kicks in just when you need things to go smoothly.
Regards,
Peter.

Hello everyone!
Okay, so my angle sensor is registering 90 degrees at...
The display shows a consumption of around 0.6 kWh when stationary without the air conditioning on, and up to 0.9 kWh per hour with it. It seems to depend on the temperature, but I think that's acceptable.
Mine only shakes occasionally, but when it does, it's really annoying.
It always happens when the coolant temperature changes.
As you're turning towards a 90-degree angle and you end up stopping at the traffic light.
I currently have approximately...
I've driven 18,000 km and am completely satisfied. While the jolting isn't great for such an expensive car, it rarely happens during the warm-up phase before a traffic light.
I also forgot to mention that this jerking doesn't occur when the engine is cold or warm.

Hi,
For AWX engines, especially models A6 and newer A4:
- Read measurement data block 13 at idle.
If a value deviates significantly, especially towards the negative range, then replace the PD elements; there's even a complete replacement set available for this purpose!
Furthermore, there's something about the vent valve; I need to clarify that further... it seems like it might get clogged or freeze.

@ThomasTDI130:
My ASZ engine, manufactured in July 2002, now has almost 14,000 kilometers on it. There are practically no disturbing vibrations when the engine is idling.
There are only a few minor limitations regarding the idling behavior.
Es This is my first diesel car, but I think it's a fundamental characteristic and not particularly significant.
- When the outside temperature is high and the Climatronic system is set to "Auto," the engine noticeably runs rougher and vibrates more, which is likely due to the climate control compressor drawing excessive power.
Bei At higher speeds, it runs completely vibration-free. However, when driving on the highway at around 180 km/h, a quiet and very deep rumble starts, which isn't unpleasant and doesn't cause any issues.
Does anyone else have experience with the booming noise at 2,000 rpm? Could it be a stressed drive unit? Or a strained exhaust system?
Tomorrow, I'm going to try talking to my friends about it... GruĂ

The replacement of the components was done up to model year 2001 because the magnetic switches on the power distribution units were designed differently.

I drive the 96 kW engine in my Passat Variant. Compared to other VEP TDIs (whether in a Passat or another car), it runs much smoother and quieter. I don't experience any idle vibrations.
The only thing I've noticed is that vibrations occur during the ride at approximately 1,700 to 1,800 RPM. When driving consistently in this range, you can see that the rearview mirror vibrates slightly and there's a slight booming sound inside the cabin. However, it's really very minimal, and so far, only I have noticed it.
"@Roger: All the other Passat TDIs that were used for comparison also had a similar amount of noise in this RPM range."
Other drivers and passengers then say, when I bring it up, that I'm hearing things .
Even completely inexperienced people haven't noticed that it's a diesel engine .
Is it because of the "acoustic package" that mine already has, or do TDIs vary this much in their sound?

@ delvos :
Well, it's not that extreme. That's probably why the mechanic looked a bit puzzled during yesterday's test drive. After all, it easily reaches 120 km/h in the city, and he even tried it out in 6th gear...
The rumbling sound only becomes noticeable when the engine is fully warmed up. If you're driving in the appropriate RPM range with a light load, for example, in the right-hand lane on the highway going uphill, it can be quite annoying. I understand it under full load, but it shouldn't be there at low loads, IMO. By the way, it's a diesel engine, and you should be somewhat tolerant of certain things. I just wanted to make sure that mine isn't an isolated case...
By the way, my car also has the acoustic package (07/2002), but the loaner car I drove yesterday, a Golf with a 74 kW PD engine from xx/2003, was noticeably more refined. The cold idle was much smoother, and the overall running of the engine was softer. However, it could also be because it had only 2,500 km on the odometer. GruĂ

I can confirm your observation. The AXR (74kW PD D4) engine is generally a bit smoother in its operation. I've never felt like it lacks power, though. It can be quite noisy during cold starts, but that noise usually disappears after a short distance. GruĂ Bertil

Hi!
Please include me in this discussion again.
Since I have an A6 with the AWX engine, what do you know about replacing the particulate filter (PD) elements?
I cannot confirm that my still-used 1Z is more refined. The PD is simply different. Both in terms of sound and power delivery. But that's nothing new.
Best regards, D.

Hi there!
I've been driving a Passat 3BG with the AWX engine for two months. I can't confirm the vibration issue from my side, but I do experience the rough engine running and the 'rumbling' sound! That's something, isn't it?!
The relatively uneven power delivery takes some getting used to.
However, the machine is very responsive and 'accelerates' like crazy! It's a lot of fun to drive.

Questions.
and has Volkswagen publicly acknowledged that this is their fault?
