Hello again...

On Saturday, I was with my son and my father.
It was really fun hanging out with him; I hadn't seen him in a long time.
Then came the journey home.
After about 30 kilometers, I turned off the radio because I thought I heard something.
We both listened more carefully, and I realized that a very bad noise was coming from my transmission (I think).
It sounds like the balancing mechanism isn't really trying to balance things anymore.
I stopped for a moment and looked around to see if I could spot anything.

Okay, so we continued driving, and it would appear sometimes, then disappear... but the noise hasn't been there since yesterday.
I drove approximately 240 kilometers.

Regarding the sound itself:

It sounds like something is interfering with the balancing mechanism, and it sounds like something is knocking against metal.

My second guess would be the semi-major axis...

The strange thing about it is that it happens when you're turning or going straight.

WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW???????????????????

I want to drive for a longer time.

PS: I've now reached almost 300,000 km.

Best regards,
Michael.

Sorry,

but what is "der Ausgleich"?

If it's the differential, it's difficult to distinguish it in a front-wheel-drive vehicle because all the gears are located within the transmission.

You can almost hear a "whining differential" in nearly every Omega A.

"Halbachse" is probably a "drive shaft".
Yes, they usually only make noise when turning (if the damage is just starting).

Unfortunately, it is very difficult to clarify any noise or disturbances in the forum.

I don't know what the f*ck it was.

Hello,

I could also imagine that the wheel bearings might be the cause.
Jack up the vehicle and check for any unusual noises or play in the components.
Possibly have the assistant press down on the brake pedal; if there's still no play, I would say it's the wheel bearing.

Best regards,

Sorry for my wording... icon_biggrin.gif

I'm just a Styrian icon_eek.gif.

I can rule out wheel bearings; there's no play and no noise.

The drive shaft (half-shaft icon_biggrin.gif) has caused problems before, but the noise is different this time.

So far, there has been no more noise.

I seem to recall that the last time I heard something, it sounded like someone was holding the steering wheel (steering wheel, or rather, the disc inside the car icon_biggrin.gif), meaning the differential was locked. The next moment, there was a 'clunk' sound, and I haven't heard anything since.

Best regards,
Michael.

Steering wheels and/or differentials simply disappear, not entirely silently, I must admit icon_eek.gif.

Avatars transform into pig-dogs icon_eek.gif.

That's a case for Mulder and Scully.

I'm already gone...
