I can rule out wheel bearings; there's no play and no noise.
The drive shaft (half-shaft

) has caused problems before, but the noise is different this time.
So far, there has been no more noise.
I seem to recall that the last time I heard something, it sounded like someone was holding the steering wheel (steering wheel, or rather, the disc inside the car

), meaning the differential was locked. The next moment, there was a 'clunk' sound, and I haven't heard anything since.
