hello. I need to go to the TÜV (technical inspection) and the AU (emissions test) now, and I've already adjusted the adjustable part beforehand.
'I increased the resistance. It's not allowed according to traffic regulations. Since my tank was also empty, I filled it up and drove 298 km. What I noticed was that after this distance, the tank was almost half empty, despite driving mostly in 5th gear. To test how much fuel was actually in the tank, I refilled it. Amazingly, 20 liters of diesel fit in. That's equivalent to 6.7 liters per 10 km. That's not normal, is it?'
With the built-in resistor, the consumption was approximately 4.5 liters per 100 kilometers, according to MFA (Multi-Function Display). This value...
I understand that the resistance is distorting the readings. When refueling, the actual consumption was around 5.5-5.9 liters per 100 km, which is significantly better than what I'm getting now with the standard settings. Since I live in the mountains, I have to increase the resistance...
Also, shift down earlier because the usual performance is no longer available. Due to the increased resistance, the fuel injection amount is increased, and according to...
Adam Ries, there's a higher consumption, but unfortunately, it's the opposite for me. Does anyone have any idea what that could be? After the technical inspection (TÜV) and roadworthiness test (AU), I'll put that part back in as quickly as possible. Thanks for your information. Best regards, Heiko2.

...I think it's related to the driving style that underlies the tuning...you have to put in more effort to achieve roughly the same performance/speed...but that's just a guess...

Greetings, Styrian.

Yes, heavier right foot.

But seriously, you're used to a higher level of performance, and subconsciously you're giving it more gas than necessary. That's why you're experiencing increased fuel consumption. After a few weeks without any modifications, things will return to normal.

hello. so, in plain English, it means that, overall, tuning results in less.
consumes less fuel because you need to use less gas (accelerator), and it has more power reserve.
'It has what's available. The thing about using gas is true. On the mountain, it comes...'
Now it barely comes out of the hip, and you sometimes have to push it a bit harder.
or even reduce the power. The supposed increased fuel consumption with tuning is often noticeable.
Okay, so with a relaxed driving style, it's basically paid for in a way that, overall, you end up...
consumes less.

zur verfügung hat. ....

Maybe!
Only those who don't utilize the available performance reserves may consume less. Otherwise, a significant increase in consumption is likely.

Hi, I wanted to reach out again after a while.
You were right back then, about the increased fuel consumption without any modifications.
The consumption then returned to normal after a few weeks.

Today, I'm dealing with a completely different problem.
By installing and removing the tuning part, it had...
A cable has come loose from the 8-pin socket of the intermediate plug.
It's such a simple tuning part, with something inserted in between.
adjustable resistor (potentiometer) that is only connected between the fuel injection pump and...
and connects it using the original VAG connector.
Now, on the number 3 side of the can, there's an opening for the adjustment mechanism.
'The resistor was shorted and, at the output of the resistor...'
As mentioned, the end of the cable had come loose from the container.
I've reread the description of the 10-cent tuning.
and it stands there.
'... a resistor in parallel with the variable coil =
insert it between cable 2 and cable 3, which is the more common alternative.
To allow for fine-tuning, an adjustable...
Resistance (potentiometer) of approximately 2 kOhms between cable 2 and cable 3.
will be switched on ... '
Okay, so I've now connected one end of the resistor to pin 2 of the component.
'No, that doesn't work, because absolutely nothing happens when I adjust the potentiometer.'
The engine is running normally, as if nothing is stuck.
Did I mix something up, connect something incorrectly, or misunderstand something?
Thank you all for your help in advance. Best regards, Heiko2. icon_wink.gif
