hello.
I haven't found anything relevant on that topic in my search.
I have a 3.0-liter car, any model, from 1999, and it was chipped (re-tuned) about a year ago.
Now I'm having the problem that the chip apparently isn't very beneficial for the engine, and I want to get rid of it. The tuner offers me the option of reversing the modification. The catch is that he's 500 km away...
Okay, so my thinking is, since the chip was replaced in my device (or at least, I believe it was), I would just need a chip with the old data and have it re-soldered in, right?
and I'm now wondering how I can get the data onto the chip (using an EPROM burner?), and could it be that the data has been encrypted or encoded? Or does everything work completely differently?

If the EEPROM chips have been replaced, the originals should still be present. Simply replace them with the tuning parts. Check whether they are socketed or possibly flashed. If they are socketed, just swap them out. If they are soldered, then desolder them and re-solder the 'old' ones (or have them re-soldered). If they were flashed, that would be a job for the tuner, and possibly require sending the control unit in.

Okay, here's the translation:
"Now I have to ask a silly question: what does 'flashing' mean? Does it involve replacing the software on the original chip with a modified version? It seems like the tuner only has the software in an 'encoded' form..."
I actually thought that "flashing" (assuming that's what you mean) only works with newer engine control units (ECUs), specifically the EDC 16 series, because those can be programmed via OBD.

Flashing via OBD is indeed a way to do it.  However, this also works with EDC15 already.  Not for all, but for some. }

and could you also tell me which models it already works on (EDC15) or whether and how it can be detected?

Please provide the part number of your engine control unit (ECU).
Best regards,

@ddrler
It looks like there are issues with the OBD programming. This is still one of the earliest stages of PD hardware development.
(actually more like an MSA15 with flash - AFAIK without a loader).
There might be something useful in the ByteShooter (formerly FlashBooster) toolbox.
Best regards,
Rudi

Where do you get it if you don't have it?
