I have an A2 with a 90 hp TDI engine and 230 Nm of torque. However, I'm not entirely happy with its characteristics. There's a strong surge in torque at 2000 rpm, but then it drops off significantly afterwards.
Now, I don't want to over-rev the engine and let it develop those typical performance modifications, because these won't solve my problem; rather, they will likely make it worse (potentially adding up to 60 Nm of torque).
My thoughts: What destroys the engine and transmission? Torque. If I only slightly increase the maximum torque (+20 Nm), the durability of the parts shouldn't be too compromised. The resulting power should actually have no effect on wear, since I am not increasing the RPM. Of course, one should make sure that the diesel spray does not hit the bottom of the piston.
So, what should 'my' torque curve look like? Ideally, it would resemble a high-performance tuning curve, but with a capped maximum torque limit, for example, at 250 Nm. This way, I wouldn't have that massive torque peak anymore, but rather a more harmonious torque/power delivery (similar to an electric motor), which would be higher than before and provide plenty of power in the upper RPM range without risking engine damage.
What do you think about this, and are there any tuners that can achieve such results?

Hi Varianti!
You could use a freely programmable EEPROM and customize it to your specific needs. However, I'm not sure if everyone can do that or has the equipment for it.

Basically a good idea, provided that the thermal reserves of the engine and the flow rate reserves of the turbocharger allow for the desired maximum power output (Pmax).
With a chip tuning solution, the implementation wouldn't be a problem in principle (I assume you still have the EDC15).
I have some doubts, based on my own experiences, whether all those tuners who promise to fulfill specific individual requests actually deliver on that promise.

Sure, let me inquire: http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/more/schilder/a078.gif
My honest opinion: Spending that much money for just 20Nm more would be too expensive for me. You can still achieve this 'killer torque' by using your brain and moderating the accelerator pedal.

Unfortunately, Google isn't very helpful with that.
The shop offers fuel-saving tuning options. I think that 'more torque for 350 EUR' might be something I'm interested in, but I don't know the details. I haven't received any answers yet. Generally speaking, there aren't many curves available specifically for the ATL engine.

Hello Varianti,
There used to be a user here who had given a Lupo TDI incredible performance for quarter-mile races or something like that. He posted a dyno chart.
'...where the maximum torque was only reached at the end of the usable range? Using the same argument you mentioned to protect the material...'
Unfortunately, I no longer remember his name or where it was located.
I know of a curve that you might be looking for, with a torque plateau from 2000 RPM to the end, found only in turbocharged gasoline engines, like a 1.8T for example.
For example, in my case, the overspeeding occurs quite severely around 2000 RPM, it takes a while to settle down, and then it also swings downwards again. I sometimes feel (in 2nd and 3rd gear) that it might be going into limp mode around 2000 RPM, but that's not actually the case.
Greetings.

@ Above
Caution! You are mixing boost curves and perceived power delivery.
That is only true if the amount of electrical energy is actually reduced due to a drop in boost pressure or air mass.
Therefore, always record both boost pressure and electrical energy consumption.
If the engine speed remains constant at idle (DZR), the boost pressure can fluctuate somewhat; it will at most only slightly increase the exhaust emissions .
Okay, please provide the German text you would like me to translate into English. I will only provide the translation.

I created a KPower diagram today. The dip at the end is likely due to the hill at the end of the test run area. (But I'm also having real difficulty finding a sufficiently straight and level stretch of road for testing.)
The curve almost matches my expectations. However, it doesn't fit with my 'butt dial' feeling. The maximum torque should start much earlier, around 600 RPM. The initial increase in the Nm curve actually indicates where it should be going. If you extrapolate that increase, you get approximately 230 Nm at 2000 RPM (which is what it should be). And honestly, I don't feel such a high Nm value when accelerating.
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

Hi,
I have a question about the performance diagrams.
Were the values measured using a diagnostic device?
If so, how does it work?
I've always used a dynamometer before, but will this work now with one of those ready-made diagnostic adapter devices?
'Sorry for the dumb question, but I don't know anything about diagnostic equipment and I'm thinking of buying one.'
Best regards and thank you.

Diagnostic devices with the necessary software are available here at the diesel mechanic shop.
Yes, I saw that.
I just don't understand how you can measure engine power with that.

DJ.

Buy yourself an AXR... it looks like this:
I also test drove the engine in the Golf IV Estate. It's not bad and quite fuel-efficient. However, the car is just boring. Sorry. It's no comparison to the A2. The A2 is much more fun to drive. And it uses less fuel than my older G3 AFN (although I thought it would use even less).

Yes, disconnect the EGR valve, and then you'll get your extra 10-20 Nm...
by the way / btw
Have you ever called a tuner and expressed your preferences?
