Unlock/Enable the Audi A3's outside temperature display (Articles)

To enable the feature, a diagnostic system, such as VAG-COM or VCDS, is required.

For the Audi A3 Type 8L, starting with the model year 2000, which features a flexible service interval display (LongLife), it is possible to activate the outside temperature display. To do this, channel 19 must be adjusted via adaptation in the instrument cluster (control unit address 17): The fourth digit of the five-digit code must be replaced with a "1" instead of a "0".

xxx0x = Outdoor temperature display disabled.
xxx1x = Activates the outdoor temperature display.

After that, the temperature will appear on the combination instrument (even without the FIS - Fahrerinformationssystem).

For the A3 (type 8P), channel 20 in the instrument cluster needs to be modified through adaptation/adjustment: Change the value from 2 to 1. After that, the outside temperature display in the instrument cluster will become active.
