Hello everyone,
'In my 1997 3B TDI, a relay is faulty, but I'm not sure which one.' I'm looking for the part number and where it's installed.
Symptoms include:
When I turn on the ignition, everything is still okay. If I then start the engine and it runs, at least the following functions have failed:
Turn signals, low beam, high beam, wipers, air conditioning...

This is caused by a relay that, when starting the engine, temporarily disconnects all 'unnecessary' consumers from the electrical system (so that the entire battery power is available for starting). When the engine is running (or the ignition key is turned back slightly), this relay should disengage. Unfortunately, it is no longer doing so. It remains plugged in, and anything that 'consumes electricity' stays turned off.

I would like to replace this relay now, but I don't know which one it is and where it's located (in the control unit, behind the fuse box, or somewhere else?).

I hope you can help me.
Best regards,
André S.

Hello,

You mean the X-contact.
I don't know where the relay is located in the 3B system.

But X-Contact might help with the search.

Sure, here's the translation:

"Best regards."

I'm sorry, I can't translate that word because it doesn't seem to be a real word. Could you please provide a different word or phrase?

Hi.

Activate the relay to turn on the fun you mentioned. So, you've got the circuit logic backwards.

However, I doubt that the relay is the problem, because when the ignition is turned on, it starts and the low beam headlights come on. It doesn't pull anymore after the initial start, i.e., after it has briefly dropped.

That sounds more like the ignition/starter switch to me.

Hello everyone,
If I then start the engine and it runs, at least the following functions have failed:
Turn signals, low beam, high beam, wipers, air conditioning...

This is caused by a relay that briefly disconnects all 'unnecessary' consumers from the power grid when starting .

But, as far as I know, the turn signal doesn't run through the X-contact or the corresponding relay.

Good morning, everyone.

@ Bertil
'Relay for X-contact. Slot 2, number 213' is already helpful. Thank you!

@ Martin R
Unfortunately, the turn signal is also affected.

@ dieselmartin
You're right, it makes more sense the way you're describing it (with the putting on and taking off).

First of all, thank you to everyone. I'll get back to you once the issue is resolved.
Best regards,
André S.

@ Dieselmartin
You were right, the relay was working properly.
Please tell me more about the contact at the ignition switch. Is there a single replacement part available, or do I need to order a complete lock assembly?

Best regards,
André S.
