Hello everyone...

I really need to finally get my turbo done. icon_confused.gif
Now I'm looking for the tightening torque for the turbine shaft (where the blades are attached). Can someone tell me what it is? The manual icon_biggrin.gif doesn't have that information...

Best regards,
Michael.

If (shovel wheel comes off the shaft), then "turbo is ruined".

I hope you're gathering the data first and then planning to start working on it.
If you've already started taking it apart, it's too late. You can either discard the turbocharger or have it rebalanced by the manufacturer.

The parts are balanced individually. Opening the impeller screw renders the turbocharger useless.

Here are the pictures showing what it should look like.

@ Rainer K.: With a Turwave impulse generator, homemade brand icon_redface.gif.
@ Dieselmartin: Thank you for the link, I wasn't clear about what 'balancing' meant. icon_redface.gif icon_redface.gif

Okay, then I guess I'll have to just modify the exhaust side from the other one.

How are impeller blades balanced?

With a special and expensive crushing machine, see for example here:

@mhernach
Did you recreate this based on something from "Fingers Welt," or is it your own original design?

Balancing: Since the wheel has already been balanced before, simply rotating the removed wheel should be sufficient. Otherwise, drill a small hole.

Best regards, Rainer.

Greetings, Rainer

No... I still have my turbocharger in the vehicle; it's still working.
However, I need to replace the exhaust side because there is a crack in the housing.
And as part of this project, I also wanted to replace the bearings and seals... I've already put over 315,000 kilometers on it.

If I remember correctly, the exhaust side goes down like this...

Best regards,
Michael

The volute casing isn't coming off easily, same problem. You can replace the housing, but not the bearing housing (where the cracked housing is attached). That would essentially be a completely different turbo. However, since it's usually just the housing that's cracked, it's not a big deal. You can replace the seals and bearings (if you can find them), but you'll need to send your turbo in to be balanced. I've never heard of anyone building their own balancing machine.
