Good morning.

My Bora is now six years old, and it's starting to show signs of wear and tear in various places.
The door handles are rattling. Besides the center armrest, it's especially the doors that are particularly annoying.
I've already removed the interior panels, 'de-rattled' everything that could potentially rattle, and greased all the fittings, but the rattling from the doors persists. Now, I was told (by VW, who else?), that the rattling is probably coming from the...
The instrument panel is coming loose inside the door. To fix this, you'd have to go inside the door, and that would cost 100 euros per door (typical of VW).

When I removed the panel, I noticed that the door, in addition to screws, is also riveted in place. Do I have any chance of fixing this privately, other than completely filling the door with expanding foam? icon_wink.gif

Okay, you can also remove the door module yourself if you've already removed the interior paneling. You just need to remove the door lock, which requires a 4 or 5 mm Torx wrench, which not everyone has on hand. Only the window lifter rails are riveted to the door module, and those don't need to be removed. Everything else is screwed in for removal. However, it can be a bit fiddly with the cables and the lock.

What's the rattling sound like? Does it sound like loose parts? Perhaps your window lifter is already slightly damaged (a common problem), or maybe a piece of plastic has broken off. Otherwise, it could also be coming from the door lock, which "clicks" on the locking bar when it's closed.

If you want to remove the generator carrier, it's best to get an instruction manual; then the removal process won't be a problem.

To rule out the door latches, I've already wrapped them with soft fabric tape. The rattling seems to be coming from the front of the door, around the handle/door opener area. It seems like the window is hitting something. When the window is fully lowered, the rattling disappears.

A guide would be helpful, but where do I get it from...?

Instructions can be found, for example, in self-help books like "This is how it's done..." or "Help is here now..." Alternatively, VW offers _ELSA-WIN_ (although it's primarily intended for workshops, it's also available for private use, as far as I know).
I once found the following online:

If it's related to the window, then your window lifter is probably starting to fail. This is a common problem with Golf 4/Bora models, so you might want to do a search online. There's a repair kit available with more durable parts.
