Hi,

I'm currently considering whether to purchase the Audi Carlife Plus extended warranty for my A6 1.9 TDI (AVG) with 120,000 km (approximately 75,000 miles). Fortunately, I haven't had any major repairs yet, such as replacing control arms or tie rods. The only repairs I've had so far are a replacement of the mass airflow sensor and some window regulator repairs. Since major and costly repairs typically start to occur around 120,000 km, the Carlife Plus might be worthwhile. What kind of repairs should I expect in the near future, and how much would they cost? This would allow me to calculate more precisely and see what is covered by the Carlife Plus. What are the experiences of people who have this type of warranty? I would be grateful for any help.

Best regards,
Mike.

Hi,

Fortunately, major repairs like control arms and tie rods haven't been necessary yet. Only the mass airflow sensor has been replaced once, and the window regulators were repaired. Since major and costly repairs typically start to occur around 120,000 km, the Carlife Plus would definitely be worth it. What repairs should I expect in the near future, and how much will they cost? This would allow me to calculate more precisely and see what is covered by the Carlife Plus. What are the experiences of people who have this type of insurance?

Mike,

I have an A4 '99 B5, with a 2.5 V6 TDI engine, quattro all-wheel drive, and a Tiptronic transmission. I've had a CarLife plus system installed for two years.

From the beginning, CarLife has been a worthwhile investment for me. The payments from the insurance company have always been higher than the insurance premium. I will now also terminate the insurance in its third year, partly because the premium has now decreased again.

Initially, I was motivated to purchase the extended warranty after my engine failed two days after the standard warranty expired, resulting in a bill of nearly 10,000 euros (for an AT engine). After a lengthy back-and-forth, Audi covered the cost as a 'goodwill' gesture. In addition to that, I've had a broken fan, which required disassembling the entire engine bay, several mass airflow sensors (I believe it's been 6 so far at around 220,000 km), an injector nozzle, brake cylinders (3), the FIS (driver information system), the radiator, and occasionally a light bulb. And when I consider the price of an AT-Tiptronic transmission, which is 30% higher than the AT engine, I don't hesitate for long.

As it gets older (now 5 years old and 220,000 km, engine only at 90,000 km), fewer and fewer things break, and I'm starting to leave some things broken (radio, seat wobble, door gap sizes). The car is paid off, and I'm still relatively satisfied with the performance... I'll drive this car until it falls apart, and then I'll switch to a different manufacturer (because they can't possibly be much worse, even if they are cheaper icon_smile.gif).

Regards,
Felix.

P.S. I think it's advisable, unless you don't want to go to Audi workshops to have your inspections done there, as I believe that's a requirement.

Okay... my A4 has now reached 305,000 km, and once again, an extension of the CarLife Plus warranty was needed... Even though the maximum coverage for vehicles with over 200,000 km is limited to 2000 EUR, I have to say from my experience that I've been glad to have the insurance every time because something was constantly breaking down. The last time it was the fuel injection pump, at just under 280,000 km.

So, I have the renewal offer in front of me now, and when the insurance company found out my mileage, they suddenly didn't want to proceed. They said they wouldn't offer coverage with over 300,000 km on the odometer.

'I'm a little disappointed (though one gets used to it). The advertisement boasts 'Lifetime extension possible.' However, my offer letter doesn't mention anything like 'We are happy to extend the warranty - provided your vehicle has not yet exceeded 300,000 km,' but simply states 'visit your Audi partner.'

Well, since Audi is no longer an option for my next car anyway, and the car is driving great right now... it doesn't really bother me that much. I'm just wondering why they're doing this.

Regards,
Felix.
