After searching the Passat forum and this forum for a solution for about an hour, I have to create a new topic because I couldn't find a clear answer.
I changed the timing belt on my Audi Passat today, but unfortunately, I'm not entirely sure which marking on the crankshaft is the correct one.
First, there's a '0' and then an 'I', which is just a line.
During disassembly, I set the motor to Top Dead Center (TDC) by using a dowel and a Northwest (NW) straight edge while disconnecting it. In this process, the '0' marking was simply in the middle of the opening on the clutch bell.
Where should it be placed, or what is the purpose of the line?
Thank you for now.

Thank you for the response.
Now, I have to mention that I own the 'Selbstmachbuch' (Etzhold) book.
Unfortunately, only the number '0' is visible there, and there is no corresponding marking on the edge.
So far, I've only replaced two timing belts on gasoline engines (about 15 years ago). In those cases, I was 'lucky' and had clear alignment marks. That's why I was a bit confused that the '0' doesn't have a corresponding mark, and that there's an extra line there.
Based on the instructions and testimonials described here, as well as the book, I eventually felt confident enough to try it.
It starts up immediately and, 'subjectively,' has the same amount of power as before. I'll have it checked by a mechanic sometime.
Thank you .
P.S. The service position of the Passat is a joke. If the pulley doesn't come off (it was rusted solid), then everything else has to be removed. Then, the coolant connections also have to be disconnected. And especially these two things (I also got the wrong tensioner from the dealer ), made it an 8-hour job yesterday.

In the picture, you can't see anything.
The "0" must be covered by half of the transmission bell housing.

Then it's off by at least 90,000 km, misaligned by one tooth, because when it was disassembled, the 0 in the middle of the housing was in the wrong position. Or is it due to belt stretch?
Do you perhaps remember what that line is used for?
It's a shame that the '0' in my book isn't as clearly defined as it is in the image you showed.
I guess I have to take it apart again...

Hi.
The AFN doesn't have a "0," or so "This is how it's done" volume 80 claims.

Diese Kerbe haben so weil ich weiß nur Quer eingebaute Motoren. Like the Audi A3.
In the A4 and A6 Passat models, they have a line and this 0. I'm not entirely sure what the line is for. Perhaps if you turn the engine and then the line appears, the 0 will also show up immediately .
If your 0 is now slightly before the , the ignition timing is advanced. Perhaps it will run a little better at higher RPMs }.

First of all, thank you very much for the tips.
Unfortunately, Steffarn is right. A 'random' '0' on the swing arm. Random, if you don't know what to do with it.
Tachostand 265tkm. 1. Turban.
Here is the worst-looking part of the old timing belt. Damage has been observed for approximately 15,000 km.

He actually looks quite healthy. I once had a T4 where the timing chain was 1mm thinner (worn down). It was running on the edge of the tensioner pulley because the tensioner spring was apparently not properly (misaligned) mounted.
