Hello,

'In my Golf 4, water leaks in through the front A-pillar when it's raining heavily and I'm driving at higher speeds.' Especially on the passenger side.
'On another Golf 4 (both manufactured in 4/9icon_cool.gif, I'm experiencing the same issue... The wind noise seems to be loudest from that direction - is there anything that can be done about it?' Or is that considered the 'standard' configuration by VW?

Best regards,
Stefan.

Hi,

"The same thing is happening with my Golf (3/9icon_cool.gif, and it's also affecting the passenger side." When you turn on the windshield wipers, they make a loud, unpleasant noise.

In heavy rain and at high speeds, it can slowly seep through the seal.

From the outside, the door seems to be fitted quite well, so I don't think adjusting it will result in a significant improvement.

I've noticed that the seals on new Gölf cars from the current production year appear to be slightly "thicker" or "bulkier".
Furthermore, the newer vehicles have an additional sealing strip made of plastic/rubber that is glued to the door frame (in the area of the A-pillar). It might be possible to retrofit this. It's not exactly cheap: 20 euros per page.

It's unlikely that we can expect any leniency, even though it's a design flaw.

Has VW taken any other measures to, for example, better reduce the noise of the Golf?
It's almost laughable that they didn't automatically fix that, for example, during the first inspection or something. If it were just the sound of the wind, that would be one thing, but the fact that it's actually leaking *into* the vehicle is definitely a defect.

Hello Kenny,

It also had extremely loud wind noise, but in my case, it was on the driver's side.
Subsequently, the door was adjusted for me free of charge.
The door has now been adjusted so that it sits closer to the A-pillar and the window frame - since then, the wind noise has disappeared.

Why don't you ask Volkswagen?

Good luck.

Jürgen.

Hello,

There is a workshop campaign from VW that allows workshops to bill for the work performed.

Problem statement:
The channel size for the door seal is too large, resulting in water ingress between the front of the door and the seal area near the A-pillar.
The door frame, in the area of the windshield, does not touch the roof trim.

Procedure:

Remove the door seal along the A-pillar, from the roof to the sill.
Measure the channel dimension between the door seal mounting surface and the sealing flange, from the roof to the sill.
Should be: 17 mm +/- 1 mm.
If there is a misalignment, carefully adjust the flange with pliers, being careful not to damage the paint.
Install the door seal, close the door, and check the closing pressure from the inside by placing a strip of paper (approximately the size of a business card) between the door and the seal.
Paper strips cannot be moved or get stuck = pressing force is too strong.
Loose paper strips or paper that is falling off indicate a lack of pressure.
The paper strip has a slight grip, but can still be pulled and slid = the pressure is okay.

Replacing roof trim:
Golf (1J1) 2-door, left-hand drive - Part number: 1J6 853 705 K.
right - ET part number 1J6 853 706 K
4-door, left-hand side - Part number: 1J6 853 705 L.
right - ET part number 1J6 853 706 L
Bora left headlight - Part number 1J5 853 705 E.
right - ET number 1J5 853 706 E
Golf/Bora Variant (1J5/1J6) left side - Part number: 1J9 853 705 E.
right - ET number 1J9 853 706 E
Check the clamping pressure from the outside, between the door frame and the roof trim, using a strip of paper (approximately the size of a business card).
Perform the check as described under "Adjust channel dimensions." If, during inspection, it is determined that the contact pressure is too high or too low, minor corrections of approximately 1 mm can be made by slightly widening or bending the contact angle.
Tschüss
