Hello,

I'm about to buy a 1999 Seat Ibiza 1.9 TDI with 110 horsepower. The seller has offered to include a PSI PB2000 tuning box with the purchase.
Unfortunately, I don't know anything about cars, let alone engine tuning. I know I might not be in the right place in this 'professional' forum, but I don't know anyone who can tell me anything about TDI tuning.
Assuming I can include the price of the tuning box in the overall cost, is the installation really worth it? What about engine wear? Does the engine suffer from a tuning box? By the way, the car has 69,000 km on the odometer.
Sure, no problem! Here's the translation:

'Thank you in advance!!!'

Greetings,

Stephan.

Hi.

Check out Rainer's website and the relevant technical articles; you'll find a lot of basic information there about tuning using a control unit and chip.

Regarding the lifespan, it should be noted that an overly aggressive setting of the box can cause a motor to fail prematurely - if the extra power is frequently or excessively demanded --> constantly pushing it to its maximum speed should be avoided.

Otherwise, TDIs are generally surprisingly resilient icon_smile.gif.

Regarding the noticeable acceleration, installing a tuning box is generally worthwhile – especially if it's set to increase power by approximately 20%, which, with reasonable use (!), usually doesn't pose a problem in terms of lifespan.

To be absolutely sure, I recommend using switchable modules (or chips). This allows you to generally drive with the standard power output and only activate the extra power when it's actually needed.

Hi

You can generally drive with the normal power output and only activate the extra power when there is a real need.

Hey Ulf,

Okay, let's be honest: Do we actually always perceive this need, or when does it truly represent a genuine 'need for increased performance'?

Best regards from Bielefeld.

Peter.

@roter_Korsar:
I can only speak from my own experience, and unfortunately, I don't know how you see it; but you probably don't have a real need not, for example, when you're cruising at a constant 120-130 km/h on the highway. In heavy, slow-moving traffic, it's certainly fun to occasionally enjoy the powerful acceleration, but is that a 'need'?
When it comes to a genuine 'increased need for performance,' I probably don't need to explain :-)).

I've now driven approximately 10,000 km with the PSI Box.
It was worth it, costing around 370 euros including installation.
Above all, the fuel consumption has also decreased! Of course, this is only when driving in the same way as before.
It's always good to have some reserves of capacity, even if you don't always need to use them.
When accelerating to approximately 215 km/h (actual speed of 205 km/h), it unfortunately enters the red zone and once went into emergency mode.
But it's also easy to fall short of that.
I am very satisfied, and I would definitely do it again.

For example, when overtaking trucks or Fiat Pandas that are crawling along at 70 km/h. Or when I finally want to pull out and see a gap that would be too tight without any modifications. After all, I don't want someone to pull in front of me and force me to brake...

For the remaining 90% of the time, my 90 TDI horsepower is more than enough.

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:
