Hello.
I might be able to get a pulley for my alternator with a freewheel at a good price. The pulley is also compatible, and the number of ribs matches. The problem is that the original pulley has a diameter of 50mm, while the new one is 56mm. Will I be able to find a suitable belt for this? Or will those 6mm not make a difference?
Thank you.
best regards
Peter.

Why do you want to do this experiment? Are you having problems with a loose belt? If not, it's probably unnecessary.
Otherwise, I think it should fit mechanically if the thread matches and there's no misalignment. There's usually some leeway when installing the belt. The extra 19 mm in circumference, or 3 mm more in radius, should be fine. However, your alternator will then rotate slower, and the tensioner will be in a different position.

Look for freedom.
Ich hab schon 2 am 1Z (== AHU) verbaut. It fits perfectly.
The belt tensioner compensates for the varying belt length – that's its purpose.

Hello dieselmartin.
Thank you for the quick response. Does this mean I can use the same belt? Theoretically, it should be about 20 mm longer, right? Can the tensioner still compensate for that?
How can I loosen the belt tensioner on a 3.0 TDI engine with the AHU engine code? Is specialized tooling absolutely necessary?
Thank you.

No, but as a temporary solution, a large screwdriver will also work.
For the free running mechanism, you'll need a special socket, like the Hazet 2592 (or something similar).

Hello dieselmartin.
Can you also tell me how I should do that with the screwdriver?
I can borrow the special nut for the pulley. As I mentioned, my problem is the belt tensioner.
Thank you.

I sold my 1Z to a friend, so I would have to drive about 2 kilometers to take some original pictures of it.

Hello.
Thank you for the graphic. Unfortunately, I'm still not entirely clear on where I should position the screwdriver on the clamp.

I gripped the arm with the large water pump pliers and pushed it upwards - it works.
