Hi.

What's the best way to lubricate this ball on the cable-operated gear linkage where the shift knob ends?

I have Teflon spray, which helps, but not permanently. This ball and all the Climatronic mechanics are coated with a clear, transparent substance - that's what I need icon_wink.gif.

Plastics become brittle when exposed to oil derivatives.

Okay, please provide the German text you would like me to translate into English. I will only provide the translation.

With polyurethane grease G 052 142 A2. As far as I know, it's a white paste.

The urea grease I received for my brake pedal switch was brown.
As a thin film, it appears almost transparent.

Silicone grease, at least, doesn't cause rubber-like seals to swell and is colorless and clear.

I always use motorcycle chain lubricant for things like that.
It seeps into even the smallest cracks and adheres well once it dries.

Motorcycle chain lubricant: I recently used this on the plastic ball of an A2 gearbox last weekend. The internal gear selector had become jammed, and it took a long time to disassemble. As a result, everything was full of "crumbs." After removing and cleaning it, I sprayed a minimal amount of chain lubricant and wiped off the excess. Now it shifts like new!
