Hello,
Having received such excellent and professional help last time, I'm encountering another problem.
I have a Golf 4 with a BCB engine (1.6L 16V).
"After the ignition coil on cylinder 4 failed (literally), the engine cut out while I was driving, and it smelled like something was burning. My car was towed to a VW workshop (which was located abroad). The workshop replaced the ignition coil (it was completely destroyed). However, the car still wouldn't start. Eventually, a faulty fuse was also replaced. The car now starts, but there's still an error code related to the intake manifold (according to the workshop, or something similar), and the engine warning light is flashing. The car is not running properly. The workshop suspects that the engine control unit (ECU) might be defective (price without installation is about 1000€). Now, the car is being towed back to me because the repair cannot be done within the next 5 days. Does anyone have any ideas about what else might have caused the ignition coil to fail?"
Unfortunately, I can only read the error codes on Monday, but it's really bothering me.
Thank you very much.

Well, the engine has something attached to the side of the intake manifold.
'The MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor is located... which would explain the error message.'
And it would be significantly cheaper, at around 60 euros, compared to a complete engine control unit.

Hello,
Thank you for the response.
I just read the error codes.
17961 Signal: Altitude sensor / Intake manifold pressure - implausible relationship.
P1553-00--- interrupted.
According to the repair manual, the first test is of the intake manifold pressure sensor.
Could the sensor have been damaged by the faulty ignition coil (or vice versa)?
I'll order the sensor.
"Thank you."

They sometimes jump around quite a bit, which isn't uncommon.
Take a look at it and see if it appears to have any mechanical damage.

Hi.
"Take a look at it and see if it looks like it has any mechanical damage!"
My suggestion would also be to thoroughly check the associated cables, as they may have been damaged or scorched somewhere along the line during the "troubleshooting" process. Gruß

Hi,
Okay, so replacing the sensor didn't help. The intake manifold pressure also increases when the throttle body cover is opened, which suggests that the cable to the control unit and the sensor itself are probably okay. This doesn't really indicate a problem with the control unit. I'm at my wit's end. The air conditioning compressor is also working fine. What else could it possibly be????????
Does anyone have any other suggestions?
I think that's going to be a rather expensive repair. Next up, it looks like the control unit will probably need to be replaced.
Regards,

Hi,
The error has been gone for more than 2 weeks now.
After replacing the sensors, we also cleaned and recalibrated the throttle bodies (Important: disconnecting the battery, as sometimes suggested, does not help!). After that, everything was fine. I can't imagine what the throttle bodies had to do with the ignition coil, but the car is running again.
Thank you for your help!!!!

Wasn't there a channel that would delete all learned values during adaptation, possibly including those of the vacuum pressure sensor? 3B5 AJM
