Hi everyone.
Up to what mileage can a 90 hp TDI engine (e.g., the one from the Audi 80 B4, manufactured in 1993/94, or the Passat from 1994 onwards) be tuned to 110 hp? I heard three years ago that you should avoid doing it after 100,000 km (62,000 miles), especially because tuning companies (at that time) would no longer offer any warranty on the engine if the chip tuning was performed after that mileage (referring to the engine's mileage). Or is it more sensible to buy an original 110 hp TDI engine (even if it has more than 100,000 km on the clock)?
What do you think? Have you had any experience with this issue before, or can you offer any helpful tips?
Thank you in advance.
Best regards,
ampac

Hi!
As far as I know, the tuners offer a warranty up to 100,000 km.
because from approximately that point onwards, the injection pattern of the injector nozzles changes in such a way that, with higher injection volumes, such as those achieved through chip tuning, excessive heat could occur, potentially leading to deformation of the pistons, piston rings, etc., which could ultimately cause the engine to fail.
Normally, new nozzle holders should be sufficient.
I estimate.
I have a 90 horsepower Golf 4.
Injectors from the 2.5-liter TDI engine and several modifications (ECU, etc.).
Negative pressure can cause the idle speed to increase and result in more black smoke, but the additional power is .

Hi, my chip tuner says there shouldn't be any problems up to 150,000 km. However, I wouldn't do it if the mileage is over 100,000 km. But that depends on the driving style and how the engine has been treated so far.

Sure, it's just as you said!
It really depends on how the engine was treated beforehand.
But the tuners won't offer a warranty because they don't want to risk having to pay out money.
I hope you have lots of fun, and most importantly, a long time, with your TDI.

'Would it perhaps be an alternative to have a chip installed that allows switching between different power levels, so that the extra power is only available when needed (e.g., on the highway or when overtaking on country roads)? Would that still be feasible with 190,000 kilometers on the odometer, or should I completely avoid chip tuning? And what is the cost of four new fuel injectors for a 1.9 TDI?'

Hi,
A chip that switches modes might ease your conscience, but it doesn't achieve anything (or, in my opinion, is even dangerous if you realize while overtaking that you forgot to switch the mode).
The fuel injectors (MKB 1Z) should cost around 400 EUR (028 130 201 J; a set of all four injectors). They are also available individually, but they are more expensive that way.

Hi, with that high mileage, I wouldn't risk anything further. It's better to get a different engine with fewer kilometers, perhaps from a car that was involved in an accident, or buy one with 110 horsepower.
