Hello everyone,

I converted my Polo 9N 1.4 16V to a 2.0 TDI BKD engine, and I am very satisfied with the whole process. The car has been running for over 1.5 years without any problems icon_biggrin.gif.

"However, I would now like to install a belt-driven power steering pump. This antiquated part is no longer available for models like the Golf V/Touran/Audi A3, as well as the Polo 9N, because either the steering is electro-hydraulic (Polo) or purely electro-mechanical (Golf V, etc.). Consequently, the corresponding alternator/air conditioning compressor mounting brackets also lack the provisions for attaching a belt-driven power steering pump. Unfortunately, I don't currently have a 1.9 TDI engine block available to check whether the mounting points on the block are the same as on the 2.0 TDI (on the engine mounting side, they are the same, which I know from a previous engine swap; specifically, the 1.9 TDI BLT mounting bracket is attached to the 2.0 TDI block, and it fits perfectly)."

The 1.9 TDI engines in the Golf IV, Bora, and Beetle (or whatever model) have something like this installed.

Now, aside from whether the bra will fit properly, the first question is whether it can even physically attach there, considering the mounting points.

Does anyone have any ideas about that? icon_lol.gif

I can't help you with your question right now, but let me explain this illogical phenomenon: 'The car runs perfectly for 1.5 years,' and then - how can I install a traditional power steering pump?

What do you need all of these for now? Hydraulic suspension? icon_lol.gif

I didn't want to write it, but I had also thought about it. icon_cool.gif I don't quite understand the meaning of the action.

I can explain that to you; I'm not just some random guy who sells tuning boxes icon_lol.gif.
The Polo had an electro-hydraulic power steering system. The pump received information about the driving conditions for volume flow control, etc., via the CAN bus. However, since the CAN bus used in the Golf V is completely incompatible with the one used in the Polo 9N, there was no reliable solution to integrate the CAN bus-controlled pump into the engine control unit. Therefore, I initially installed a purely mechanical steering rack.
The increased effort required for steering is increasingly annoying to me, so I came up with the idea of using a traditional, CAN-bus-free belt-driven pump, simply icon_smile.gif.

However, that is an argument. icon_lol.gif Unfortunately, I cannot help you with your problem, and I have never compared the holders.

Best regards, Rainer.

Okay, so the bracket fits the engine block perfectly. The holes are the same for both 2.0 and 1.9 TDI engines. However, the parts are positioned slightly differently; the alternator seems to be further forward and higher. The tensioner is also in a different location. You'll need to check if you can make the tensioner, belt routing, and component placement work.

Purely out of curiosity, how much did you have to pay for the registration at the TÜV for a project like that?

It's quite impressive that they managed to fit the 2.0 TDI engine into such a small engine bay... icon_wink.gif Moreover, the build quality in the picture above also looks really clean.

larger than the 1.9 version in terms of external dimensions, the 2.0 version is, but it shouldn't be a problem. Therefore, it should even fit into a 6N icon_biggrin.gif.

How can the combination instrument, immobilizer, and ABS system be reconciled?
The 2L transmission will never fit in there; you'd have to change everything. Ah, I see that the inside of the car is completely empty. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.
Apparently, things were running smoothly for a year and a half? But it's really just a makeshift operation.

It's supposed to have been running smoothly for a year and a half? It's not more than a makeshift workshop.

Don't be so quick to judge, you don't know how old the picture is. I think it's quite old; it doesn't even have a hood or fenders.

Okay, the Golf V transmission is quite a substantial piece. That's why the engine is mounted slightly tilted to the right. The transmission bracket is completely custom-made, here's a picture, also of the torque strut. And everything else was built by me. The pictures are all from the middle of the build process. Oh, and I've installed all the Golf V control units...
