The above-mentioned car, model year 2006 (recently purchased), only has...
a single fan on the water cooling system.
Does it operate in multiple stages, especially when the climate control is turned on?
Or are we actually missing the second one?
According to Etzold, there should be 2 (including climate) ... icon_eek.gif

Best regards, Klaus.

Well, repair manuals can already be outdated in detail before the first copy is available for sale.
But even our non-climate-controlled ASZ-9N model from 2004 came with two radiator fans from the factory.

According to my information, for the 2006 Polo, there should only be one version available.

But as an AXR driver with climate control, you at least got the biggest one: 390mm, 260/90 watts.

What makes me pause, however, is Ulf's statement, because even for the years 2003/4, I can only find one fan.

Only in the wiring diagrams for the years 2001-2003 is a second radiator fan shown, with the note: "Not for vehicles with air conditioning."

Ulf probably has two smaller fans, while you have one larger and overall more powerful fan.

Regards,
Sure, here's the translation:

"Guste" is a German word that means "gust" or "gust of wind." It can also be used to describe a sudden burst of something, such as laughter or anger.

Thank you very much, Guste! icon_biggrin.gif
I had already suspected that the front of the car had been rebuilt at some point.

Yes, that thing is massive; it certainly generates a lot of thrust. icon_wink.gif

No, there was also one large and one small fan inside.
I, of course, amputated the little one (for weight reasons). icon_twisted.gif

"Just like in my 1997 AFN. The small one starts running immediately when the AC is turned on."
Therefore, I always thought that it was mainly used to cool down the surrounding area.
It's circulating with a coolant that is compressed and therefore heated.
Wenn das stimmt: wie ist dann im AXR Polo diese KĂźhlung ersetzt? Is there any?
Is this part similar to a fuel cooler?

Best regards, Klaus.

Hello everyone!

Clause, don't you have a (large) Visco fan and a small electric fan inside the AFN unit?
...in my A4, manufactured in 1998, it's configured this way, with a Climatronic system and a factory-installed tow hitch, which results in increased cooling.

Best regards from Munich!

Visco fans, which are directly driven by the engine, are only found in engines mounted longitudinally: This includes older Passats and Audis, as well as V6 and V8 engines.

A viscous fan would be too complex for a transverse engine. Therefore, the Polos definitely only have electric fans. It's possible there's still an older configuration: an electric fan and a second fan blade driven by a V-belt connected to the first electric fan. However, I doubt that's still the case today.

@Ulf:
Since you removed the second fan: Do you have it somewhere within easy reach? Then you could post the part number, and we could see why it's installed there, even though you can't see it.

Greetings.

Yes... Those who can read the title of the topic often have a clear advantage icon_wink.gif.
Okay, then I'll just be quiet about this *g*.

Yes, the (red-labeled) AFN has received an increase in green AXR shares...

I'm completely confused. What's the Polo, and what's the Polo Classic? The latter was produced from 2004 to 2009, while the other was produced from the 1970s to the present day.

Ulf's part number belongs to the Polo CLASSIC (and is only the three-arm bracket for the fan icon_wink.gif). It doesn't specify exactly when or how many fans are installed. There is definitely a large fan and a small fan that can be mounted at the same time. (Unlike the Polo Non-Classic).
There are two different versions of the smaller fan (single-stage / two-stage).

That was the only number I found initially.
Just now, I discovered a small identification plate on the metal housing, located in the narrow gap between the bracket and the propeller cap: the part number is 6Q0 959 455 L.

The fan is 2-speed (3-pole).
