Good morning, everyone.
Since I need to replace my timing belt soon, I'm about to buy a timing belt kit. When I asked my parts supplier, they told me that two kits might fit, one with a tensioner pulley and one without, and it depends on which one was originally installed. But they can only tell me for sure once the old one is removed. That's ridiculous! It can't be that I have to see what's installed before I can order the replacement.

Can any of you tell me which sentence fits?

G3 Variant, Model 98, AFN with air conditioning.

Greetings.
Reuselkopp.

Regarding 2(.1) and 2.2(3), icon_wink.gif let's see if we can find anything.

Okay, I think the following:

Sure, here's the translation:

'Sentences:'

Article number: CT867K4.
Width: 25 mm.
Zähnez. 137

Comparison number: 028 198 119 C for engines AEY, 1Z, AHU, ALE, and AFN, for example.

Article number: CT867K2
Width: 25 mm.
Zähnez. 137

Comparison number: 1L0 198 002 A / 028 198 119 A, suitable for engines 1Y, AAZ, ABL.

Now, you just need to narrow down which engine you have, and then it should work icon_wink.gif.

he writes - AFN. Also, when replacing the timing belt, I would definitely replace the tensioner pulley as well. It's going to wear out eventually anyway. And believe me, it's not a good feeling to reinstall an old part and have it fail after only 5,000 km.

he writes it himself - AFN. Also, when changing the timing belt, I would definitely replace the tensioner roller as well. It's also at the end of its lifespan then! And believe me, it's not nice to reuse an old part and have it fail after only 5,000 km.

That comment about narrowing down the motor was meant to be fun icon_rolleyes.gif.

And the numbers and information from me are sentences, so including punctuation, etc. icon_rolleyes.gif

Just read something a little more carefully icon_wink.gif everything is included icon_lol.gif.

Hi,
My mechanic also mentioned those exact two sentences. The difference between the K2 (belt + tensioner) and the K4 (belt + tensioner + idler pulley) is the additional idler pulley in the K4. The parts dealer said that I should check if my old unit has a pulley installed and then buy the corresponding part.

So, I have to check it out first! "Thank you anyway!"

According to mullemaus, you need the K4 model, which also requires a redirecting roller. He's saying that the K2 isn't actually for the AFN.

In another thread, I read that instead of the CT867K4, you should choose the CT945K1. What's in it for me?

Hmm, I see you're the same person as in the performance loss thread...

When you replace the timing belt, you have to remove the valve cover and adjust everything anyway. Why don't you do that first and then check the performance again?

Yes, that's what I want to do, but if I'm already taking everything apart, I might as well do the timing belt replacement at the same time. He's already on it! / He's already taking care of it!

I think you should make that decision alone about whether it works icon_wink.gif. You should know if it fits, whether yes or no icon_wink.gif.

The following belt is installed in my AFN 0603 344:
028109199P

There should be a set of representative examples, consisting of...
028 198 119 C - Repair kit for timing belt with tensioner.
consisting of:
028 109 119 P Timing belt, Z=137.
028 109 243 F Tensioner roller.
028 109 244 Deflection roller.
N 011 558 11 Disc 8.4X15X1.6
N 900 744 01 Hex nut, self-locking, M8.
N 014 717 2 Hex socket head cylinder screw M8X40.

There should be a replacement part set consisting of 028 198 119 C .

Sure, please provide the sentences you would like me to translate from German to English. I will provide only the translation, without any explanations.

Article number CT867K4.
Width: 25 mm.
Zähnez. 137

Part number: 028 198 119 C for engines AEY, 1Z, AHU, ALE and AFN, for example.

Not should, which doesn't exist, but we already clarified that icon_wink.gif.

The price at that company is more than acceptable for end consumers. Thank you for the link.

Hi,
The set 028 198 119 C from Autoschulz also contains screws and small parts. Are these small parts also included in the Conti Kit CT867K4? I could get it for 84 euros.

The single screw, nut, and washer, which should cost around 4 or 5 euros (or less?), are not included in the current price.

However, I might be wrong, and it's possible that the disc and nut of the tensioner pulley, as well as the screw for the idler pulley, are included as well. Someone else might know for sure.
