Hello everyone!

We have a new sales representative, and they brought in a Skoda Fabia (6Y) with the following (primary) complaints: "The heater is always on!" and "The interior ventilation only works on level 4."

"Right then, I immediately inflated my VCDS adapter and created the following Autoscan:"

First, regarding the Bremse-StG:
Is anyone familiar with this? I'm not aware of a "V30." Are similar failures expected here as with the MK60?
We(I bear halt *g*).)

Regarding climate control/ventilation:
Okay, okay, I know: Ulf will now put on his little hat, put a vacuum cleaner in front of his car, and be as happy as Rumpelstiltskin, just to have another new case as confirmation for the "Climate-OUT!" thread. icon_wink.gif
This is a basic control panel with three rotary knobs - so it has no display.
The fact is that the air conditioning system in the vehicle is apparently completely empty. (MWB ...(=G65) 0.0 bar!!). I don't think it has a magnetic coupling compressor installed, but rather one that cannot regulate below (approximately) 2%. Therefore, this compressor has likely been defective for a long time, or its drive shaft is broken at the designated weak point. icon_rolleyes.gif
I strongly advised her against troubleshooting and repairing the system here (replacing the compressor, evaporator, dryer capsule, refilling the refrigerant, and possibly even replacing the compressor) due to cost-effectiveness reasons (see the mileage >320,000 km!).
What remains is that the pre-resistance of the interior fan levels "1" through "3" seems to be defective. According to VCDS, the supply voltage to the fan motor is constantly at 0.0 volts up to level "3". Also, you can see the voltage slowly decreasing when switching back from level "4". I suspect that the motor itself is not seized or faulty.
"In addition, the stepper motors for the air intake flap and heating control are typically defective. Furthermore, a basic adjustment using VCDS only made the problem worse: Now, the adaptation for V68 is missing and cannot be re-established."
The recirculation flap motor and the blower motor pre-resistance seem to be easily accessible by removing the glove compartment.
"How about the V68? Has anyone here successfully installed it from underneath in a Fabia? I definitely won't be installing the dashboard, as I've never done that before, and I certainly wouldn't attempt it on a car I'm not familiar with."

Whether and how the heating system will be repaired depends now on what you say about the Brake System Act (BremsenStG)...
If a new steering column (similar to the MK60) or even a complete ABS hydraulic unit is required here, it seems that the vehicle as a whole is nearing the end of its lifespan (and I'll skip all the trouble with the actuators right away, so that nothing else falls into a crevice, like a cotton swab icon_confused.gif).

Thank you in advance for your replies!

Best regards from Munich!

PS: No, the application form is still outstanding due to a lack of time *g*.

Hello,

Quote:
First, regarding the "Bremse-StG" (law on brakes):
Does anyone know anything about this?

Unfortunately, no.

Quote:
01596 - Servo motor for fresh/recirculated air flap (V154).
29-10 - Short circuit to ground - Intermittent.
01596 - Actuator motor for fresh/recirculated air flap (V154)
28-10 - Short circuit after positive voltage - Sporadically

Since the control unit cannot decide, I would say it looks like there's a problem with a connector on the air conditioning system.

Best regards, Rainer.

Hi Rainer!

Thank you very much for your answer! icon_wink.gif

...the "V30" braking regulation icon_rolleyes.gif is still the main focus of my inquiry...
Because it reflects the intention behind whether I tackle the matter as a whole, or would rather leave it alone.

Your conclusion here about V154 is (extremely likely) not a connector, but rather a worn-out potentiometer used as a position sensor in the V154 (and the V68 as well). Therefore, the most implausible error messages arise, which has now been largely confirmed to me through research (...wow, I've been Googling since last Wednesday icon_confused.gif).
Furthermore, I believe that the V68 is more important for the "driveability" of the vehicle than the V154.
The question is: HOW (the heck!) do I get the V68 out of the dashboard without having to remove the entire dashboard?

Thank you again for the answers!! icon_wink.gif

Best regards from Munich!

Polo is likely very similar, so I'm referencing this here.
Yes, they are very nice instructions.

Hello VAG!

Thank you also to you for the good links, but I actually got started this afternoon on installing and removing the blower resistor and the V154, as well as maintaining them.

Both could be removed relatively easily after disassembling the glove compartment.
At the end of the (multiple) resistor chain, there is a thermal fuse with a rating of 240°C, which has tripped. These fuses are only specified up to a maximum of 10 amps, and I strongly suspect that they didn't trip due to overheating, but rather were struggling with the constantly borderline current flow. After all, a blower motor is typically protected with a minimum of 20 amps. I have now installed two thermal fuses, each rated at 240°C, because, in my opinion, the fuse characteristic is maintained in a parallel configuration, while the current flow can be distributed.
The pollen filter was, of course, overdue for replacement (supposedly replaced by ATU, but they just charged me and didn't actually change it!!!). It wouldn't have surprised me if a dead rat had fallen out along with all the leaves, sand, and dirt *laugh*.

The air control motor (V154) could also be removed relatively quickly. When disassembled in the TV repair shop, a graphic ohmmeter clearly indicated a jumping potentiometer. After removing and reinstalling it, the contact surfaces were visually inspected for any signs of wear, contact cleaner was applied, and then rinsed off. My Fluke then showed clean resistance values without any interruptions or jumps.
By the way, you can't source this potentiometer (manufacturer: Piher) from anywhere else. Furthermore, it's not just a potentiometer; it also has an additional 110 Ohm resistor in the wiper. Also, its value doesn't change from 5.2 kOhms in the first quarter! ...so it's a rather unusual and specialized component...
Reinstalling the V154 proved to be a bit tricky because I initially didn't realize that it controls two flaps, not just the lower one that you can see in the footwell. Getting all the gears back into the correct position was a bit annoying, but after a few Bavarian curses, I eventually managed it.
Connected VCDS, performed basic settings - it's working again without any error entries related to this.

Over the past weekend, the sales vehicle, with its error memory cleared, covered several hundred kilometers, and no brake system errors have been recorded since then.
If things stay like this, maybe I'll even try the V68 icon_wink.gif.

Thank you again for your tips!!

Best regards from Munich!

Hello everyone!

Mani was very kind and just sent me the following message, and since more people might need it on this topic, I'm posting it here:
Skoda-Manni wrote:
Hello!

I'm new to this forum. It's possible that I might be posting replies or text in the wrong place.
schreibe, wenn dem so ist, dann bitte eine kurze Info. Thank you.

To replace the V68 stepper motor for the temperature flap, it is not necessary to remove everything. The cover under the steering wheel and the air vent for the driver's footwell must be removed. The bracket is removed along with the entire stepper motor assembly, and there are variations in how easily this can be done. Some are easier to remove than others. Depending on how easily it comes out, the retaining hooks and clips on the bracket may break when it is removed. A new bracket kept in stock (which makes the job easier and costs only a few euros) is cut in the middle, so that only the part that holds the stepper motor remains. The upper part is anyway empty and is not needed, either before or after. When installing, pay attention to the angled tooth, i.e., the marking (mark it with a white paint marker if necessary), and install it accordingly. During installation, with the ignition on, you can use the temperature...
The control switch allows the positioning motor to be moved back and forth, which can facilitate positioning. It's best to perform a basic adjustment after installation. If any further adjustments are needed, it's easier to make them when everything is still open and without any covers.
"About 2-3 years ago, it was necessary to replace the actuator motors so frequently that it took us about an hour each time. Now that the actuators seem to be less prone to failure, I'm unfortunately a bit out of practice."

Have fun at work!
best regards icon_wink.gif

Thanks again to Mani!
