Hello,
"In my Passat 3B, manufactured in March 2000 and equipped with a 5-speed transmission, the resistance that separates the shifting levels between gears 3/4 and gear 5 is no longer present."
"That is, when shifting into 3rd gear..." Sometimes you hear the third harmonic, but sometimes the fifth, and occasionally something in between, which produces an unpleasant sound.
I've removed the gear lever cover before, but I didn't get any further than that.
Before I take everything apart, can someone tell me where this resistance is coming from - at the shift linkage or at the transmission?
Does anyone know this problem, or its solution?

Sure, no problem. Here's the translation:
"Thank you in advance."
Greetings.
Rupert. |

Do the drawers slide in and out easily without scratching? Check the shift actuator; the shift rod that goes into the transmission may be defective - requires a workshop visit. 2010 Caddy kombi life 103 tdisg6 BMM KXW

The 3B Bj3/2000 still uses the old linkage system.
It might be worth considering stopping it.
However, the shift linkage is generally always a bit more clunky than the later cable-operated systems. |

The mechanism isn't actually complicated, and the gears fit in perfectly. I've also already checked the gear shift linkage; it's easily accessible from above.
Normally, the gear lever is in neutral in the 3/4 position. To shift into first or second gear, you push the lever to the left. To shift into fifth gear, you need to overcome the resistance by pushing the lever to the right. For some time now, the gear stick in my car has been getting stuck in a position somewhere between left and right, with no resistance.
It would be helpful to know how the gear lever is held in the 3/4 position when in neutral (e.g., by a spring). Possibly, I can then narrow down the source of the error and, consequently, the amount of work required for disassembly.
Regards,
Rupert. |

Hi, there are locking screws installed in the transmission. These are screws with a small, spring-loaded ball that locks into the recesses on the shafts. This is all part of the shifting mechanism. These locking screws are usually replaceable from the outside.
I would check these locking screws first. 2010 Caddy kombi life 103 tdisg6 BMM KXW

Hello RedR32,
That was the right tip!
I found two locking screws on the camshaft. Out of those, one actually had no tension left on the spring/ball.
I'll order those tomorrow, then it should fit again.
Thank you and best regards.
