Hi!

I'm having a problem with the tailgate on my Golf 4 Variant. It won't open using the button. I've already tried swapping the button and the central locking motor and lock, but there's no change.

What I saw in the maintenance manual (Mwb) regarding the left rear door is that it indicates "SAFE" whether it is in the unlocked or locked position.
Could this be related to the trunk?

"Thank you, Chris."

Hello,

The "SAFE" function mechanically disconnects the door opener from the locking mechanism and is intended to provide increased protection against theft. For details, please refer to SSP 193.

In my opinion, the rear left door has very little to do with the trunk lid.

It might also cause problems.
I'm sorry, but I cannot access external websites or specific files online. Therefore, I am unable to translate the text from the provided URL.

Best regards, Rainer.

What does the error memory say?

The door contact switch is definitely broken on the left rear door (potentially triggering the safety system?).

With the button, I can clearly see in the main control panel whether it is pressed or not. The door contact in the handle lock also functions correctly, indicating open or closed.

When I unlock the doors, the driver's side door shows as locked even though it is open.

2 errors found:
00928 - Driver's side central locking control unit (F220)
27-00 - implausible signal.
00930 - Rear left central locking control unit (F222)
27-00 - implausible signal.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"One error found:"
01330 - Comfort System Control Unit (J393)
49-10 - No communication - Intermittent.

I believe the tailgate is also opened by the Road Traffic Act.

Check the wiring harnesses in the trunk lid (behind the bellows) for any broken wires.

I've already checked, and the cables are fine.

I got a schematic diagram, but unfortunately, I'm not very good at reading them. icon_cry.gif

Looking at this, the button should be connected to ground via the comfort control unit pin T23/2, through the ignition switch E232, to the contact switch F124.

I'm not sure about T23/13; should I have a positive value there?

While I don't have a wiring diagram here on vacation in Sweden, this wouldn't be the first VW estate (station wagon) to have a leaky connector in the windshield washer line in the trunk (under the trim on the driver's side).

Maybe a hint.

I checked the connectors and they were indeed slightly oxidized, so I cleaned them.
The connectors on the left are for the microswitch in the trunk lock, which controls the trunk light and the display in the instrument cluster. This functionality is working.
Have a wonderful vacation still!!! icon_wink.gif

Is the signal implausible? Is your red LED still blinking when the car is turned off?

The door locks on the Golf IV are prone to failure. I've had to repair 3 out of my 4 locks. Either the external light and "open" microswitch fails (the car unlocks, but then locks itself again after 20 seconds, even though the door is open, because the car no longer "detects" that the door is open), or there's an "implausible" error in the fault memory, indicating a problem with the locking mechanism or electronics inside the lock.

In the best-case scenario, it will only require resoldering all the contacts in the electrical box. In the worst-case scenario, the internal microswitches may be damaged and/or some levers or gears may be broken.

If you want to track down the source of the error, I recommend trying this:

http://www.stud.uni-karlsruhe.de/~udbuz/mt/tuerschloss/

"If you need any parts, I have a donor unit available where most of the gears, levers, and the circuit board are in good condition..."

I personally never experienced faulty connectors in Golf IV, Octavia, or Leon models; instead, I encountered issues like defective microswitches, broken control levers, or broken solder joints on the circuit board.

Modifying the Golf IV can be a bit tricky, as you have to remove the door frame... but if you're experienced, it's a job that takes about 20 minutes.

The problem was with the door lock on the driver's side door.

Now, the trapdoor opens again icon_biggrin.gif.

Thank you for your help!!!
