Hello friends,
After having spent the last few days looking into my Touran more closely, I noticed something:

For some time now, I've had the feeling that it's performing worse; it's consuming more diesel, and also the level of comfort has decreased.
I just thought that he was old and worn out.

After reading about the 24Q1 results, I reviewed my notes.
And he saw that...

- At mileage readings of 50,000 km, 100,000 km, and 140,000 km, the speedometer indicated a speed of 218 km/h each time; now it only reaches 200 km/h.

- After the initial break-in period, with mileage between 10,000 and 150,000 kilometers, it consumed between 5.3 and 5.7 liters per 100 kilometers. From 150,000 to 215,000 kilometers, it consumed between 6.2 and 6.7 liters per 100 kilometers.

'I was always very happy to drive a fast small van that allowed me to travel long distances at speeds of 160-200 km/h. In recent years, I've hardly been able to drive above 130 km/h anymore because it becomes too noisy for me.'

After being able to pinpoint the first two issues to specific mileage readings, I then researched what happened at 150,000 km.

Fuel consumption at 110 km/h on country roads during long-distance driving with cruise control was always around 5 liters per 100 kilometers, but now it's just above 6.

The result is 24Q1!

Now I have made it clear to my icon_biggrin.gif that I want to reinstall the old software.
He will now read all the relevant data next week and submit a corresponding request to Volkswagen.
However, he mentioned that I would probably have to contact Volkswagen directly, as the dealer was likely to be dismissed.

Since I don't have a DSG (dual-clutch transmission), the impact of the 24Q1 campaign isn't immediately noticeable. However, with an increase in fuel consumption of 1 liter per 100km, there's suddenly an additional cost of €600 per year; in my opinion, that's absolutely outrageous!

Does anyone have information about a solution that would reverse the disadvantages of version 24Q1 without requiring a reinstallation of the old software?

According to my research, the main reason for the software change was that the 140 hp engine was too close in performance to the 170 hp engine due to manufacturing variations.
It's also possible that's why my transmission lost a few teeth at 150,000 km.
It's possible that this is common knowledge at Volkswagen, which is why a different, reinforced transmission was installed in my Touran as a replacement.

From now on, I will include the following statement on every project: 'No software modifications without prior consultation.'

Does anyone have information about a solution that would reverse the disadvantages of version 24Q1 without requiring a reinstallation of the old software?
'That last upgrade already cost me €1000, so I'm not exactly thrilled about further improvements at the moment.'

Hello there.

A colleague had a very similar experience with his Passat 3C.
However, nothing could be done about the issue with VW. Apparently, reverting to the old software was supposedly 'technically not possible.'
He tried everything not to do anything.

Ultimately, the final step was to go to a chip tuner.
Now, he has a fuel-saving tuning system installed by xxxxxxxx, which has restored his previous performance levels with perhaps slightly more acceleration and brought his old fuel consumption back.

In my opinion, what Volkswagen did is a huge outrage.
There's a huge thread about your problem on the MT Forum.
Over 1000 people suddenly experienced reduced performance and increased fuel consumption after an inspection.

24Q1 only applies in specific driving situations - for example, comfort complaints such as a rough engine running. icon_wink.gif

And normally, it's important to clarify BEFOREHAND whether the customer wants this update. The reason for this is that there may be existing customizations or tuning, etc. icon_rolleyes.gif

VW's handling of the 24Q1 and related issues is completely rude and disrespectful, which explains why customers are disappointed. The spare parts prices, which explode to fix design-related defects, are just as outrageous!

Thank you in advance for your feedback!

And normally, it's important to clarify beforehand whether the customer wants this update.:

I'm not sure if he told me that back then. Since I have a very good relationship with my , I don't want to accuse him of anything. He really does everything he can to help me.

I already asked the tuning specialist about chip tuning (which I didn't have installed yet) as a backup plan.

I'm also happy to receive this feedback!icon_wink.gif

However, if you should happen to know that he didn't do it, then it would be his problem. icon_wink.gif

Please inform the customer that a software update for the engine control unit needs to be performed. Ask him if any modifications to the engine control unit have been made on his vehicle through tuning (chip tuning).

- Please inform him that engine tuning modifications performed on the vehicle contrary to Volkswagen's recommendations may preclude a software update or even damage the engine control unit. Ask the customer to clarify with the tuner whether a software update is possible.
- Please inform the customer that both Volkswagen AG and your company assume no responsibility for damages resulting from a software update, nor for damages resulting from a failure to perform an update. Include this disclaimer on the order form before the customer signs it.
- If the customer declines the action due to chip tuning, please send us the completely filled-out 'Vehicle Registration Form for Vehicles with Chip Tuning' (see attachment) so that this information can be included in relation to future warranty claims. On the form, under 'Customer declines inspection/repair,' note the additional text 'Chip Tuning' next to 'Manual vehicle deletion.'

That's very interesting, thank you!

In my case: icon_biggrin.gif = business partner; therefore: not his problem, but definitely my problem! icon_wink.gif

Following consultation with the relevant department, a flashing permit is now available.

I would like to know which software version should be reinstalled afterwards, so I need to find out what the original software version was on the control unit before the 24Q1 update.

As far as I'm aware, the original number should have started with a 7..., while the new one is 9971.

Can someone tell me the original software version number (2.0, PD, 16V, BKD)?

Thank you!

It should be the 7001, please post your part number.
'TNr' is an abbreviation that stands for 'Titelnummer,' which translates to 'title number' in English. It refers to a unique identifier assigned to a specific document or record within a system or database.

Therefore, the translation of 'TNr von was?' would be:

'What is the title number for?'

He means the complete part number and software version of the engine control unit, which is what the VCDS diagnostic tool displays in its module information section. icon_wink.gif

Today, the update was installed; now version 9904 is running.

After that, I tried a few things: yesterday, accelerating from 50 to 100 km/h in 6th gear took 15 seconds, but today it only took 13.
'My fuel consumption according to the on-board computer was 6.3 liters per 100 km after the test drive, and 5.9 liters per 100 km when driving home; admittedly, the VW dealer's reading is slightly higher, but I had a small trailer attached for the journey home and also performed an acceleration test (with the trailer!).'

I am fascinated! icon_surprised.gif

I hope that the fuel consumption display hasn't been tampered with and that what it shows is actually accurate. But I haven't seen such low fuel consumption figures in a long time, unless I limit my speed to 90 km/h.
