Passat combination instrument cluster, year 1998

"Hi, the combination lock on my Passat is broken. I've now bought a new used one and wanted to have the immobilizer programmed at VW, but they say it's not possible because the VIN of the previous owner is still in the system! They told me I need to have the memory erased..."

Can this be done with VAGCOM without clearing the memory? Where is the login code located, or does it need to be obtained from VW?

Yes, if a login is available.

It's on the small plastic tag, which usually isn't there anymore. VW doesn't provide any physical documentation; everything is online.

Edit: Could someone please provide the part number for the "new" AI? It seems like it might be the wrong one!
