Hello fellow DIY enthusiasts!
My Audi A3 has been making noises when the front suspension compresses for at least 2 years. However, this noise only occurs at higher outdoor temperatures and low humidity.
It sounds absolutely terrible, like an old barn door, when the front wheels compress.
During the second-to-last service appointment, I brought the problem to the attention of the service department. Unfortunately, it was raining that day, so the noise was no longer present. Consequently, Audi was unable to provide any assistance.
Once, I myself pulled and pushed on the front axle's anti-roll bar stabilizer with all my strength, even though the wheels were fully turned. I believe that the rubber bushings of the stabilizer link between the stabilizer and the control arm might be the cause, but I'm not entirely sure.
What do the professional thieves in this forum think about this? Are there any other A3 owners here with similar problems?
What can be done to eliminate the noise? Should I replace the bearings, or is there a cheaper solution?
I was thinking that if they are rubber bushings, maybe spraying them with Teflon or silicone spray might help eliminate the squeaking. Has anyone had any experience with this?
Thank you for your help.

In my case (my Golf IV), it was the rear rubber bushings of the control arms – specifically, the ones located in the estimated 8cm opening. I "treated" them with grease spray, and everything is okay now. Apparently, these elements expand and rub inside the opening. If you're not sure what I'm talking about, I can also email you a picture.
Best regards,
Andreas

Thank you for your offer to provide the pictures; that would certainly be helpful.
Oh, by the way, what kind of grease did you actually use? Was it a silicone-based or Teflon-based grease? Do you think you could also use a universal lubricant, like Caramba Super Multi-Oil?
I simply want to prevent the lubricant from degrading the rubber bushing over time. On the other hand, it should be a lubricant that doesn't get washed away after just a few hundred kilometers, otherwise the play would start all over again. 'With my Passat, I experienced the same issue, except there were also noises when turning the steering wheel. In my case, it was a faulty tie rod end.'

@schwob
I probably got my hopes up too soon. After the grease spray treatment on several rubber bushings in the front suspension, things were quiet for a while. But this afternoon, I noticed a noise again, and it had a completely different sound than the noises I'd heard before.
I suspect that the noise so far has been a combination of several sources. After the rubber bushings were silenced, only a metallic-sounding noise remains. It could also be a ball joint that is starting to fail and making grinding noises! I will re-examine the issue.
