Tire Noise Front Right?

Hello everyone!

Today I put summer tires on my Volkswagen Golf 3 TDI (81 kW), and now I'm having the following problem:

A squealing or grinding noise can be heard from the front right side of the car, especially when taking left turns, which puts stress on the right side of the vehicle.

What does a faulty wheel bearing sound like, and is there an easy way to check it?
'There's nothing to hear when taking right-hand turns... maybe it's just the tire tread pattern (but that would be very strange).'

It sounds like a wheel bearing problem. The best way to confirm this is to jack up the car and spin the wheels.

What is the mileage on this vehicle?

It's just strange why this noise suddenly appears after the tire change.
Interestingly enough, the same thing happened with my Volkswagen Golf.

The Golf has now accumulated a mileage of 145,000 kilometers.

So far, I haven't had any problems with wheel bearings or anything else, but with this mileage, it could certainly happen.
On Wednesday, I'm getting two new tires put on the front. And if the noise is still audible after that, I'll go straight to the workshop.

It's strange that I didn't hear anything at all from the winter tires.
I'm sure I wouldn't miss a sound like that. Surely something like that can't just happen from one minute to the next...?

Well, firstly, winter tires are usually noisier anyway, so you hear fewer background noises. Secondly, I would guess that the wider summer tires, depending on their offset, exert more force on the bearing.

I swapped the rear tires to the front – still no difference. It's probably the bearing, unfortunately.

Andy, how are you satisfied with your GTI-TDI?
Mine is a GT-TDI Special model, manufactured in November 1996 – they might have even been seen in Wolfsburg (or elsewhere)...
Have you experienced any major problems so far?

Yes, that's right, my JUBI was built in WOB.
So far, I haven't had any major problems.
I bought it in November 2001 with 119,000 km on the odometer, and currently it has 153,000 km.
I have fixed the design flaw in the vacuum sensor for the VTG system.
The electric folding mirror on the driver's side was repaired (it was already defective when purchased).
I also replaced the radiator; it was only leaking a little, but I don't like doing things halfway like using a radiator sealant.
Everything else falls under wear and tear items or unnecessary repairs: timing belt, brakes, oil, filters, suspension, cruise control, etc.

It turns out the wheel bearing on the front right side was actually bad – I need to replace it. Otherwise, I've only had two solenoid valves fail so far.

'How much did the vacuum pump issue cost you? And can my auto repair shop install the new one without any problems (e.g., during a service) and at a reasonable cost?'

Did you notice any difference after that?
My automatic fuel nozzle sometimes regulates the flow too much at the top end, reducing the pressure a bit, then increasing it again, etc.

The fun costs approximately 120 euros in materials.
The installation is usually very easy.

The question is whether any workshop would do something like that for a low price. They're so quick to replace entire turbochargers just because of a stuck vacuum sensor.

With a little luck, you might find a defective charger with a large battery pack on eBay.
I bought one for 30 euros this weekend. I'll then put the small container on it and auction it off again.
If I can get another 20 euros for it, then it will have been worth it.
