Back door lock, Touran, left side, defective.

Hello,
Yesterday, I had a problem where the rear left door of my Touran would no longer open.
I assume that the safe lock in the door was the cause of the problem, as the door also could not be opened by pulling on the inner door handle.

The error was surprisingly not recorded.

Eventually, I managed to unlock the door by pushing against it. The new lock has also been ordered and will be installed on Saturday. I disabled the safe lock for so long and then, without any problems, I opened and closed it at least 20 times.

Now, let's get to my question. What would one do in such a case if the lock could no longer be opened?
Would one then have to resort to using a can opener?

My rear left door has been in this state for two years... just hoping that I never need it . I once removed the lower screws of the trim panel one day when it happened to work, and it hasn't bothered me since, even though I usually drive alone. However, repairing it is definitely not going to be cheap....

I ordered a new, original lock from the online marketplace.
Including shipping: 46 Euro. I assume that the change will not be a major undertaking.
When calling for assistance, 133 European citizens will be contacted.

Since we're going on vacation next week with 5 people in a suitcase, it wouldn't be entirely impolite if everything worked again.
