Hello,
The windshield washer pump on our Polo is leaking when activated. The washing water seems to be escaping from the area where the outer hose connector cover sits on the horizontal distribution cylinder (where the hoses leading to the front and rear windshields are connected), as shown in the picture, specifically at the left fitting.
Has anyone ever disassembled a pump like this (which is used as a universal part with the code 1K6 955 651 in many VAG models, such as Golf and Passat from 2003 onwards, Touran, Sharan, Ibiza from 1993, Leon from 2000, etc.) and sealed it at that specific location?
I'd really like to avoid spending around €40 to buy a replacement for that tiny thing...

Glue works wonders.
But honestly... does that even make sense?

The question is simply whether the pump can be disassembled and reassembled without any damage.
If not, and a new pump would have taken several days to arrive, we would have been in serious trouble because Christel would have had to drive every day completely without windshield wipers.

To be honest, I haven't used my windshield washer system in weeks, so it will probably take about 2-3 days...
Take it apart and have a look. It's already broken anyway.

Given the miserable weather we've had in recent weeks and my daily commute on the highway, I have to disagree. It's always needed whenever it doesn't work – when it's frozen or empty.
I would first try to open the pump. If that's impossible or if opening it risks causing total damage, just leave it alone! You can only seal something with silicone if you can disassemble it. Furthermore, silicone has a limited lifespan and isn't necessarily frost-resistant. It's also unknown how the antifreeze additives in the washing water will react with silicone.
Surface imperfections, scratches, or cracks are not a problem – they can be easily corrected.
Slight fading after the first summer is normal; the material will then have a slightly grayish hue. A single item costs €3.99.You can find the cartridge at a discount store ("Schnaeppchenbaumarkt" - it's really called that!) or at a B1 hardware store. Opened cartridges are usually sealed and have a shelf life of about 4 weeks. If they have been warmed up, they will last for approximately another 2 weeks.
You could also try using body adhesive or windshield sealant. This type of product generally doesn't have any issues with the antifreeze additive.

"In the winter, the 2-liter reservoir is empty every few weeks, even though we usually only drive about 40 km of lightly trafficked country road each day. My partner has always complained about this in our Polo, and yesterday she happened to find out that there's also a 4.5-liter reservoir available for Polos with SRA (selective catalytic reduction). Ours doesn't have SRA, but VAG offers suitable blind plugs for the holes where the SRA pump and warning contact would be."The conversion to the 4.5-liter tank is now finalized.
The pump will probably need to be replaced as well, because the car wash froze during one of the past winters (I completely forgot about that), and the water likely leaked out through cracks in the casing that opened under pressure.

A splash of Gesc.Adding the cleaning agent to the container *before* mixing it increases its cleaning effectiveness noticeably.

Here's how I repair a leaky pump . First, roughen the surface with sandpaper, then degrease it with brake cleaner, and warm it up with a hairdryer. After that, seal the crack or gap with hot glue! In this case, I don't disassemble the pump because it's too risky, as plastic parts could break. I would only disassemble it if the pump doesn't rotate, is stuck, or completely stops working.

If it works out, the old part that has been glued will go into the spare parts pool .

I hope you find the pump again after all these years .
