Control panel input not responding, possible faulty diagnostic system?

Yes, I have used the search. After 1.5 hours of Googling, I've come to the conclusion that it's okay to ask what I probably seem like stupid questions.

I have VCDS 14.10 (purchased previously and now freshly updated) and I want to reset the service interval display on my Octavia 2, built in 2005, with engine code BKD. However, I get the message "Central electrical system does not respond". During the connection test, I receive the message that my interface (the connection cable to the purple diagnostic connector?) Ross-Tech Key-USB Version 3.01 (purchased here in 2006) is fine, but
does not support the CAN bus. I suspect it's because of this. Therefore, I need a new one. What should I pay attention to now? I couldn't find anything I wanted in the shop.

Ah, so, the Octavia 1 (MJ 2001) always worked, but it probably didn't have a CAN bus either.

It's also possible for 100€ less, but I don't think it's particularly sensible in the long run. Because, for example, if you buy an Audi A4 or A6 in a few years, you won't be able to use it then.

Furthermore, the €369 is a joke when you consider what similar products cost from other manufacturers (BMW, MB...).
