Hello everyone,

I need your opinion. The clutch from the signature (referring to a specific vehicle or part) has now reached 207,000 km, mostly short distances, including trailer use. The clutch is starting to wear out, and I wanted to replace it myself. I have also equipped my homemade jack with a new attachment. I want to attach a 40mm drill bit to the steel plate that you see in the picture above, and then secure the gearbox to it using a few wooden supports and a clamping strap.

Above, I welded a motor bridge for replacing timing belts, etc. It is intended to be used again here to support the engine.

Do you have any more tips for me? My last clutch replacement was on a Trabant, and it's been a while since then. Once I have removed the gearbox and can measure the drive shaft, I would appropriately center the centering pin.

Thank you for your tips.

Best regards,
Holger

Matthias' warning was justified. I was able to complete the expansion on my own. I used a sturdy wooden plate and a strap to secure the winch under the transmission. I also pushed the engine slightly forward using a wooden beam, and then it worked. Because I can also operate the winch across the pit, this was a feasible task, although it was very strenuous. It definitely requires two people, but I think three would be even better. It seems like the son-in-law and the neighbor will have to get involved.

I made a holder for the flywheel from a piece of flat steel. The coupling is finished, it's very obvious, and the rivets are just barely below the friction lining. Otherwise, everything looks dry and verschandeln after 14 years and 208,000 km.

My question to you is, what else should I consider, or what should I switch to instead?

Thank you and have a wonderful rest of your Sunday.

Holger

Moin

Ist also alles machbar.

Good evening everyone,

I have also replaced the timing belt on the crankshaft. I thought this was advisable, as the initial leaks were quite noticeable. We installed the gearbox together. I had the sump pump from below, and I had also built a hand rope winch to the engine bridge from above. I placed two 50 cm long loops around the gearbox, and my son-in-law pulled the rope from above. This preparation worked better than the removal. Thanks again to Matthias for the warning. Tomorrow, I will finish the remaining assembly; for today, that is sufficient.

I'm hanging up the old manual transmission on my daughter's garage, with the note that it should not be parked at the intersection with the clutch depressed while the traffic light is red...

Have a wonderful evening and a happy Easter!
