Hello.

I recently purchased an Audi A6 2.5 TDI Quattro automatic with a production date of February 2000, and I'm experiencing the following problem:

- When I shift into reverse, the car rolls backward as it should, but as soon as I press the accelerator, there's no power! The engine revs up, but nothing happens.

- When shifting into D, it starts normally. 1st gear is okay, 2nd gear is okay, 3rd gear sometimes grinds and clunks when shifting, 4th gear is like 3rd gear, 5th gear is okay.

- TT Mode: 1st gear OK, 2nd gear OK, 3rd gear sometimes slips and clunks when engaging, 4th gear slips slightly but then engages, 5th gear OK.

- Now, here's the strange thing: When the transmission goes into limp mode in "D" mode, everything works as it should! All the gears shift "normally," reverse works as expected, and there's no jerking or slipping.

So far, the following has happened:

- LMM (lambda sensor) replaced (when shifting into D or R, it no longer engages 1st and R gears as smoothly).

- Oil level checked (38 degrees Celsius). OK.

- Vacuum hoses checked (some replaced due to defects).

-No error codes stored.

- MSG and GSG adaptation values reset and adaptation run performed.

-The transmission oil change should have been done approximately 8,000 km ago (seems credible, the oil looks good).

I'm really desperate and grateful for any help or suggestion! icon_cry.gif icon_cry.gif

In emergency mode, the transmission operates with maximum oil pressure, which would not be sustainable for long.

Regarding the 5HP19 transmission, there are three potential issues: the entire torque converter could be faulty (which seems unlikely here), the torque converter could be worn (also improbable), and finally, there's the possibility of a worn friction pack. I believe friction pack F was responsible for reverse gear.

This is often a consequence of saving money on filter changes. The pump may then not receive enough oil, which affects the pressures, leading to slipping friction clutches and, consequently, wear and tear.

Edit: What is the mileage?

Did you knowingly buy the car with this damage?

If that's the case, I hope you didn't pay more than 500 euros for the car, because the repairs will likely cost between 2500 and 3000 euros, which represents a significant financial loss. However, if you're willing to accept a car in poor condition, you might still be able to get away with it without incurring major losses.

That would be another attempt: http://ugm-automobile.de/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=5&Itemid=6

Hello and thank you in advance.

Worn-out shims was also my thought.

I went to the workshop again today, got on the platform, and checked the oil level.
"Lo and behold, approximately 800ml were missing. (Never trust the seller's statements.)"

Since I was already there, I also replaced the solenoid valves, installed a new mass airflow sensor, and changed the brake light switch.
After that, the error memory was cleared, and the adaptation was reset to factory settings.

Then we got in the car for the adaptation test, and sure enough, it was reversing just like it should!
He puts it in gear and drives forward, shifting through all the gears and accelerating.
TT mode is also fine.

Hmmm, but somehow not enough power!?!?

Back to the garage, I popped the hood, and what did my disbelieving eyes see...
...I'm such an idiot, I forgot to plug in the connector for the mass airflow sensor!!!

Error codes read: Mass Air Flow sensor and Intake Air Temperature sensor errors (as expected).
GSG, no errors.

Stecker drauf! Und wieder los. Oder auch nicht los, das alte Lied, Karre nimmt im Rückwärtsgang kein Gas an vorwärts wie oben beschrieben 1.OK, 2.OK, 3.kein Kraftschluss......... Notlauf.

Halle, VCDS, automatic scan, MSG OK, GSG error 3/4/5.
And... the ABS control unit and the front left wheel speed sensor are defective.
It's strange, the ABS warning light isn't lit at all.
Ignition off, ignition on, no ABS light at all!!! (Someone might be up to something.)

-Does the speed sensor have anything to do with the transmission control?
-Why does the transmission work so well without the mass airflow sensor, including reverse gear?
- Could the MSG (Modular Service Gateway) be defective or partially defective?

Is it always more? That car is a real mystery to me!

-According to the odometer, the car has driven 250,000 kilometers.
-No idea if an oil change has ever been done.
-Yes, I knowingly bought the car in that condition.
It has a new turbo, a new VP44 injection pump, new camshaft with accessories, including the engine with 160,000 km, and new tie rods in the front.

I bought it for €850 as a winter car and for spare parts, with the intention of rebuilding my other cars in the spring. However, I had an accident with it two weeks ago.
By the way, my car is the red twin of this one, but in better condition, except for the left front side.

Okay, just replace the sensor. You can definitely use a cheap one for around 10-15 euros, but also consider getting the appropriate housing (DT-housing-speed sensor)!

The transmission calculates its shift pressures based on the load signal from the engine control unit. If the air mass sensor (MAF) sends unusual values to the transmission control unit (TCU) due to a faulty or defective sensor, this can also result in unusual shifting behavior.

Did you check the transmission fluid level according to the instructions?
