Audi A3 8P Wheel Bearing Housing & Shock Absorber

Hello,

For an Audi A3 8P, the wheel bearing housing, including the wheel bearing, needs to be replaced.
Does anyone know if the shock absorber/strut assembly can be separated from the wheel bearing without special tools?

Is this the version where the shock absorber is attached to the wheel bearing housing with a pin at the top?
Remove the clamping screw, apply Caramba, and if necessary, carefully widen the gap (without bending).

The wheel bearing housing needs to be spread open in the slot. You can buy a 1/2" socket specifically for VW Golf V and similar models for a reasonable price. It's best to remove the entire shock absorber assembly. It's easier to do in a vise, but it's very important to blow out the 3 threaded holes where the strut mount is attached with compressed air from underneath. Then, soak them repeatedly with rust remover, and carefully unscrew the bolts. Try to avoid loosening the nuts at the bottom; if they do come loose, you'll need to weld them back on. It's a good idea to have new strut mounts on hand just in case.

To create a wedge, I filed the threads of an M10 screw to make them oval. It works very well and costs almost nothing.
If you need to adjust the camber on the control arm, you can use a special adjustment bolt, but a regular bolt can also be used for the connection.
Spray some oil into the rear slot; it will then slide more easily .

It's possible, but even using a spreader is often borderline, especially if there's no third hand available to hold things in place.

My next investment is a spreader that is clamped in place using a split collet.

Looking for experiences with wheel bearing housings from original Audi versus Vaico or other suppliers...

Are the positions of the attachment points absolutely identical compared to the original part?

That's how it should be. Fortunately, I've never had any problems with premium providers in the aftermarket.

"Premium" is Lemförder, and then there's a long gap until anything else comes close.

Unfortunately, that's the case. TRW is also being discontinued and is partially original equipment.

You just don't know about the other providers.

As I mentioned before... I prefer to buy the original product when in doubt. It gives me peace of mind.

I've been using almost exclusively TRW parts for the past while (about 1.5 years).
Axle parts, rubber bushings, control arms, tie rods, brake calipers, rotors/pads, and brake cables. The quality, workmanship, and fit were always identical to the original equipment (OE) part. With axle parts, the deviation after measurement was actually hardly measurable, or there was no need to correct it.

Assembly without calibration, the steering wheel is misaligned by 1-1.5 finger widths on the country road. The steering gear is okay, but ABS/ESP errors disappear after driving a few hundred meters. }

Okay, I need to get the car aligned first, and then I'll see. Tomorrow, I'll try driving on a really straight road. It can't be that bad; the steering wheel on my A6 was even more off, completely crooked.
