Ich habe an meinem Passat schon länger das Problem, dass die Heckklappe häufig wegen zu großem Widerstand je nach Außentemperatur nur mit Unterstützung auf oder zu geht. FehlThere are none.

Alternatively, I could just open the motors and check the brushes, but I really don't feel like doing that.

If the problem only occurs when going in one direction, it might still be related to the shock absorbers. However, if the problem occurs in both directions and the mechanics are okay, then the issue is likely with the motors.

Can you detect (hear or see) if there's a problem with only one of the motors in case of a malfunction?

I'm unsure whether the door latch with the automatic closing mechanism can remain if the car is modified. It's possible that it's controlled by the engine control unit, so you might also have to replace that.

I think I would just take a look at engines from scrapyards. That way, it would be a simple swap and not a retrofitting process.
