Fixing a car with a corrupted system / Seat Alhambra 2014

Hello everyone,

I bought my daughter a Seat Alhambra, model 2014. So far, everything seems to be fine with the car (it passed the technical inspection yesterday without any issues).

However, the car has some quirks. The electric sliding doors don't work, the power windows are faulty, etc. I haven't been in a hurry with it. Now, my daughter mentioned that the cruise control works, but doesn't display anything. The exoneration system is also down.

I connected VCDS today and discovered that the car's coding is hopelessly messed up.

Hi Bo,

In this case, the simplest solution would likely be to find a reliable and experienced tester who knows what they're doing.

Based on the vehicle identification number (VIN), it should be possible to reconstruct it.

Please note that not every checkbox needs to be correct in VCDS, especially when the car is new.
Therefore, always perform a vehicle scan when purchasing a car and archive the results (as the scan includes coding information).

I was afraid of that. However, my "friend" hasn't even provided me with a list of features or the service history of the car. I can't expect much support from there.

Unfortunately, Erwin (siehe Fehlerdatenbank) no longer provides vehicle-specific data to individuals.

The sticker with the product numbers only covers less than half of the features.

The dealer is not allowed to provide any information about the car. They are all very stubborn there.
I once got a quote for a rim.
The offer described the vehicle with all of its optional features and packages.
Perhaps this is still a possibility.

Why shouldn't information about the car be provided?
The opposite is true. I am entitled to receive it based on EU regulations for my vehicle. Only personal data of the previous owners needs to be removed or obscured. No one can successfully pursue this claim against Volkswagen.

Other manufacturers introduced GDPR-compliant printing options years ago.

I can even easily obtain old inspection reports from TÜV, with the address sections blacked out.

He should not provide any information, but rather, he should properly code the thing with the tester.

Assuming I would do the work myself, the current hourly rates I'm quoting are based on that.

He doesn't want to. They want to leave him there for two days to "troubleshoot." If he doesn't find any defects in the electronics, he'll do it.

I found a company that does it.

Only the display of the set speed for the GRA is still missing, but the green light is on again. Doors, Bluetooth, FH, SHZ, ... everything is working again.

Well, that's quite nice already!

Regarding speed display: I just checked the Autoscan of our 2012 Sharan. It also has the coding "140F01" and displays the speed when the cruise control is active. However, our control units are different. Ours has the part number "7N0 920 870 E", while you have "7N5 920 860 F". You should check the parts list to see what the 860 model lacks compared to the 870 model.

It's also possible that the engine control unit (ECU) isn't reporting that information to the instrument cluster (IC). I can't really compare them because you have the 1.4 gasoline engine, and we drive the 2.0 TDI.

It would also be worth investigating whether VAG might be deliberately hiding this feature in Seat models to create more differentiation. Have you ever seen it perform in a similar Alhambra model with a 1.4-liter engine?

I've also considered that possibility. I saw it on a Skoda Yeti with a 1.4 TSI engine, not on an Alhambra. It shouldn't be related to the instrument cluster display itself, because during the segment test, the required symbol is displayed in the lower center of the display. Of course, this doesn't say anything about the software or its availability.

I don't need to look any further. According to SEAT, it cannot be a 1.4 TSI Alhambra with CAVA/CTHA engines, regardless of what type of instrument cluster (KI), multi-function display (MFA), or gear shift indicator (GRA) is installed. The forums are probably full of them.

It doesn't matter. The GRA and the on/off light are going. That's enough.
