Golf 5 Steering Sensor (G269) Replacement

Hello everyone,

My Volkswagen Golf 5, manufactured in October 2003 (chassis number: WVWZZZ1KZ4W003442).
After replacing the springs and shock absorbers, the vehicle is displaying an error code with a red steering wheel symbol.

"One error found:"
00573 - Steering torque sensor (G269).
012 - Electrical fault in the circuit.
Environmental conditions:
Mileage: 6400 km
Torque: -6.0 Nm.

I have tried to calibrate the steering angle sensor multiple times using VCDS, but unfortunately without success; the error persists, and the steering is very stiff.

All fuses have been checked and are in good working order.
I can also access the control unit 44 (steering assist) and view its values.

Unfortunately, I'm stuck and would be very grateful for any help you can offer.

According to my information, the torque sensor is located in the steering gearbox.

Be prepared to replace the steering rack; it's not a major job. You can remove it along with the axle in a maximum of 2-3 hours.

Since I had assumed that was the case, I disassembled it today and will order a new one. I have a couple of questions about that:

- I have installed the first generation, and only the second and third generations are available for purchase. If I were to install a second-generation unit, what should I be aware of, besides needing to obtain a wiring harness?

- Do I need to use VCDS to calibrate the transmission or perform a similar procedure, other than calibrating the steering angle sensor?

Make sure to use the exact part with the same part number as the one that's currently installed.

I found a refurbished one that includes my part number.

Is a software update or similar required, or is it simply plug and play, and do I just need to calibrate the steering angle sensor (G85)?

It doesn't sound like the "adaptation" function to me; rather, it sounds like writing a memory area to flash or EEPROM.

What options are available in the "Adjustment" function of VCDS?

What does the automatic scan show for the new steering rack?

The new steering rack (Gen 2) has now been installed and is working correctly. The steering angle sensor (G85) was calibrated, and then I went to have the alignment adjusted.
The auto-scan indicates that part number KL 077 is being used.
