Hi,

is this combination sensible. The background is that I want to minimize brake dust.
Viele Grüße
Andreas

Hello!

In recent years of my automotive career, I have repaired many larger BMWs. But that was also 7 years ago...

There were also ATE ceramic brake pads.
If that's what you mean.
And yes, they are fine.
They look very different from the normal brake pads.
As for whether there's a lot of ceramics inside, I don't know.

In any case, there were no problems or complaints.
and the brake dust on the rims was also not,
or significantly less.
At BMW, brake squealing has always been an issue.
but I also had no problems with the pads.

There were also reports that they should not be used for vehicles belonging to the police, etc., because the coefficient of friction was too low.
I think I actually read that here in the forum.

But none of my customers have complained about it,
They were all very satisfied.
Grüße, Steffen!

Hi,
The tread must be approved for use in combination with the disc for the vehicle. This means approval from the manufacturer. Otherwise, it's a no-go with the operating permit.

Thank you for your responses. Your responses confirm my suspicion.

What is your recommendation? In my opinion, steel discs with EBC Green Stuff or similar.

My experience with ATE Ceramic brake pads is mixed - I can confirm the reduction of brake dust (but there are also other manufacturers that offer ceramic brake pads, which I haven't tested yet).

The last vehicle I installed ceramic coating on was a Mercedes W204 estate. Combining with ATE brake discs, I assumed that the material pairing would also work.

Unfortunately, after 7-8 months, it started making so much noise that I had to replace the brake discs and brake pads.

Generally, ATE makes good parts, but my personal experience with the ceramic brake pads was not very good, while I have never had any complaints or squeaking with the standard ATE brake pads.

Regarding EBC brake pads, you need to be careful, as some require a "warm-up" period before the corresponding braking effect is achieved. This depends on the specific application.
